ITH Floral Ponytail Cover Embroidery Project

Description

Create a stylish ponytail cover with a beautiful floral design using in-the-hoop techniques. This accessory adds a touch of elegance to any hairstyle, making it perfect for both casual and formal occasions. Step-by-step instructions are included.

Materials
  • Tear-away stabilizer or water soluble opaque
  • 2 layers hooped with the grain of each piece in different directions from the other, like one up and down and the other grain sideways
  • 2– 5″ squares of material 1– 5″ square of thin quilt batting, for example, the cotton batting for quilting and not the high loft. Or 2 5″ pieces of cut away stabilizer instead of the batting
  • 1 nice finished stick or thin short chop stick
  • This is for holding the cover onto the pony tail. You do this by pushing the stick through one hole, under the ponytail and up through the other. I like to go through the ponytail and not under it to make sure it doesn’t fall out.
  • Things you can use as a stick: a short dull pencil, a piece of a wooden dowel slightly sharpened, a shortened chopstick.

    Step 1:
    Stitch onto stabilizer for template you can remove this from hoop and cut out for your template if you want to. stitch onto stabilizer for placement. Glue material down to stabilizer. Stitch line, stitch onto fabric trim around the outside of the stitch line and return hoop to machine (stitch out design area) remove hoop from machine and turn over.



    Step 2:
    Glue or pin from top: 1 layer of thin batting and 1 layer of material for back of Pony Tail Holder. If you don’t want the thickness, use a couple layers of heavy cutaway stabilizer instead. Stitch line around outside stitch small holes for stick.



    Step 3:
    Trim material and batting around the outside of the line and the inside of the smaller holes. Remember to trim as close as you can without going through the stitch line. It’s easier to trim a little more later, than add material.


    Step 4:

    Return hoop to machine and finish the stitching. Tack down, satin outline stitch around outside and around the holes. Remove from hoop. If using tear-away stabilizer, jut gently tear the stabilizer away from the Pony Tail holder. If using the opaque water soluble stabilizer, trim close to the stitching and dampen the edges with a wet sponge. This will leave a smooth patch like look.
