FSL Halloween Candle Wraps Embroidery Project

Description

Enhance your Halloween decor with these freestanding lace candle wraps. Featuring intricate designs, they easily fit around standard candles to add a spooky touch to your festivities. Step-by-step instructions are included.

General Instructions:
The candle cover is made from three separate designs that are embroidered one at a time in a 4" embroidery hoop. The three completed sections are then joined together with a zigzag stitch on your regular sewing machine to complete the candle cover.

Materials
  • 6" or 4" flameless candle
  • Batteries for your candles if it doesn't come with them
  • Madeira Polyneon thread: black (1800), off white (1804), red (1747), orange (1765), green (1751)
  • 1 yard fibrous water soluble stabilizer such as Floriani's Wet-n-Gone, or OESD's Aqua Mesh
  • 1 yard of black stiff Craft Yarn or ribbon for back tie
  • 4" embroidery hoop
  • Standard sewing machine

    Preface:
    Please use polyester thread for this project. Rayon is simply too soft. Please use the fibrous water soluble stabilizer instead of Solvy or Badgemaster for the best results.
     

    Step 1:
    Hoop two layers of the fibrous water soluble stabilizer in your hoop.

    Step 2:
    Following the color chart for each section stitch the design. Note: as the back side of each section will be flat against the candle there is no reason to change bobbins in this project for the various color changes. White bobbin will work for all sections.

    Step 3:
    After the embroidery is complete - hold each section under hot running water to remove the stabilizer. Do not soak - you want some of the stabilizer to remain in the product to keep it stiff. Lay the pieces onto a cotton dish towel and allow to dry thoroughly.

    Step 4:
    Take your pieces to your regular sewing machine and place the center section as well as an edge section underneath your presser foot. Make sure you place the end pieces on the correct side for each piece, by making sure the bat or the spider are facing up. Using your widest zigzag, zigzag all three sections together.

    Step 5:
    Turn the work wrong side up and cut off any tails from tie-ins and tie-offs from the back of the work so they will not show through the open areas of the free standing lace.

    Lay the flameless candle on top of the embroidery and lace the back side with the craft yarn or ribbon. Lay the craft yarn on the candle and bring the ends through the underside of bottom loops. Cross the yarn and bring up under the middle loops. Cross the yarn again and bring the ends up from under the top loops.

    Tie into a bow and trim the ends.

    Turn on your spooky candle and enjoy.
