Oz Themed Bookmark Set Embroidery Project

Description

  • Oz Bookmark embroidery design
  • Two pieces of either contrasting or matching fabric; one for the top and one for the back
  • Cutaway backing
  • Embroidery thread in the chosen colors
  • Embroidery machine
  • Bobbin thread to match the border color
  • Scissors

    Preface:
    Since I was using this project as a cast gift, I edited the project by duplicating the design five times, as many as could fit in one large commercial hoop. I cut and paste the border of each bookmark to run at the end. The border is used to secure the bottom fabric to the bookmark, covering the bobbin threads and providing a clean finish to the project.     Step 1:

    Layer cutaway backing and bookmark front fabric in the hoop. Place the inner hoop section and tighten.

    Place embroidery hoop on machine and embroider design.

    As you can see, I edited this design to personalize it to fit my agenda by adding "OZ 2011". The original design doeas not have the title or the date. Continue the embroidery process until all bookmarks in the hoop are completed.

    Do not remove the embroidery from the hoop!

    When all five bookmarks have been embroidered, and prior to the color stop for the borders, slide the finishing fabric under the hoop while it is still on the machine. make certain that the fabric is lying flat under the hoop. The embroidery stitches of the border will hold the fabric in place.

    Remove the project from the hoop. Cut out each bookmark, cutting as close as possible to the border, being careful not to clip any embroidery threads.

    (Hint: Any frayed edges of fabric can be burned away by lightly touching them with a flame, using either a lighter or a candle. You must, however, be careful not to burn the fabric!)
