Spring Window and Garden Wall Hanging Embroidery Project

Description

Craft a charming wall hanging featuring a springtime window scene with colorful flowers. Perfect for adding a touch of seasonal beauty to any room. Step-by-step instructions are included.

Materials
  • FSL Spring Panel embroidery designs from any of the FSL Panel Design Packs
  • Ultra solvy or other heavy water soluble stabilizer
  • 10/70 sharp needle/11 sharp or smaller
  • 3 - 1 1/8" plastic rings
  • 3 - pieces of double fold bias tape (each sized at: 5 1/2" long x 7/8" wide)
  • 3 - medium suction cups w/ hooks
  • thread to match border for sewing the panels together
  • spray starch
  • wax paper

    Preface:
    The spring window garden scene is from the FSL Spring Panel 1 Design Pack.

    It contains 9 individual free standing lace embroidery designs that will fit in a 5x7 hoop. When all 9 panels are sewn together the scene is 17 3/4" high x 12" wide.

    The spring country garden scene is from the FSL Spring Panel 2 Design Pack.

    It contains 9 individual free standing lace embroidery designs that will fit in a 5x7 hoop. When all 9 panels are sewn together the scene is 12" high x 17 3/4" wide.

    The numbers on each of the panels match the name of each design. For example: #1 in the two panels is the design named Garden Window Panel 1 or Garden Country Panel 1.

    Hoop 1 piece of ultra solvy.

    Embroider each panel one by one. Once the panel(s) are done embroidering, gently separate the design from the solvy.

    Then add hot/warm water to your container or sink. The water should be high enough so that the entire panel will be submerged.

    Place your panel inside the container. Let them soak for about 10-15 minutes. This will remove the solvy from the design.

    Remove the design from the water and place on paper towel to remove the excess water.

    Lay the embroidered panels on wax paper and spray both sides with spray starch. Make sure the panel is laying flat on the wax paper.

    Place another piece of wax paper on top and then place a heavy book on top. Leave until the design has fully dried.

    Using your sewing machine you will now sew the top 3 panel pieces together. We started with panel 9 & 8 and used a 3/16" zig zag stitch.

    Then sew the 3 middle panels together and then the 3 bottom panels.

    When each individual row has been sewn together you can now sew the rows to each other. You can see in the picture that the top & middle rows have been sewn together and we are now sewing the middle & bottom rows together.

    Now you can create 3 fabric hangers, using a 7/8" double fold bias tape for this sample but you could also use other fabric. Cut 3 pieces of the bias tape 5 1/2" long. Sew a 1/8" seam along the open side of the tape.

    Step 9:
    Finish off the 2 ends of the 3 pieces of bias tape by folding the tape over and sewing a 1/8" seam along the raw edge.

    Slide one end of the bias tape through the plastic hoop and fold over 1 1/4" and sew together at the top of the hemmed end. (Optional: you can wrap thread around the plastic hoop to match the thread used in the design.)

    With the front of the panels and hangers up, sew a hanger on the left about 1/2" from the edge and the same with the right side. Then sew the last hanger in the center of the middle panel.

    Now you can hang your completed Spring Panel on a wall with nails or in a window with the suction cup hooks and enjoy.
