Christmas Cardinals Table Runner Embroidery Project

Description

Create a festive table runner featuring vibrant Christmas cardinals. Perfect for holiday gatherings, this table runner adds a touch of seasonal cheer to any dining setting. Step-by-step instructions are included.

Materials
  • Two 20" x 10" strips of white fabric
  • 16 1/8" x 22 1/2" piece of Christmas print fabric for the center of the runner
  • 16 1/8" x 34 1/2" piece of low-loft batting
  • 16 1/8" x 34 1/2" piece of backing fabric of choice
  • 32" of trim
  • 230-CRC Christmas Cardinals CD or memory card

    Step 1:
    Using a water soluble marking pen, draw a 16 1/8" x 6 1/2" rectangle in the center of each of your 20" x 10" white fabric strips. Divide and mark the drawn rectangle into 3 equal parts. See diagram for help. Find amd mark the centers of these three parts. These will be the center points for your embroidery designs.

    Step 2:
    Embroider designs. We used two pieces of tear-away backing and embroidered 16635, 16630 and 16614 from left to right on one white strip. On the other white strip from left to right we embroidered 16617, 16627 and 16634. Gently tear away backing. Press embroidered panels on the wrong side, eliminating any wrinkles. Carefully cut out fabric along the 16 1/8" x 6 1/2" drawn rectangle on each piece. The extra white fabric on the outside can be thrown away. It was for hooping purposes only.

    Step 3:
    With right sides together and using a 1/4" seam allowance, stitch one cardinal strip to each short end of the Christmas print fabric. Baste a length of trim to each short end of the runner front, along the edge with raw edges facing out.

    Step 4:
    Baste the batting to the wrong side of the backing fabric along the edges. With the right side of the quilt front and the right side of the backing fabric facing in, stitch the runner front to the runner backing plus batting, having raw edges even. Stitch with a 1/4" seam allowance, and leave a 4" opening along one long side for turning. Clip the corners of the seam allowances and turn the runner right-side out. Hand stitch the opening closed.

    Step 5:
    Hand or machine quilt the runner as desired to keep the layers from shifting. Enjoy!
