T-Shirt Pillowcase for Kids Embroidery Project

Description

Create a fun and cozy t-shirt pillowcase featuring playful designs perfect for children's rooms. This project involves assembling a t-shirt pillowcase and crafting a broadcloth pillow to fit inside. Ideal for adding a touch of whimsy to any kid's space. Step-by-step instructions are included.

Materials
  • Youth small T-shirt
  • 2 pieces of 24" x 24" broadcloth (light color)
  • 1 bag poly fiber fill
  • 1 piece of Velcro 18" long
  • Embroidery thread for design and to match T-shirt and broadcloth
  • Scissors
  • Fabric marker
  • Embroidery machine
  • Sewing machine
  • Pillow Kids embroidery file

    Step 1:

    Embroider the Pillow Kid design on the t-shirt as shown.

    Step 2:
    Pin and sew both sleeves and collar shut with a 1/4" seam.

    In this step you will add Velcro to the bottom hem of the t-shirt. That way you can easily add and remove the pillow. The Velcro has 2 sides; a hook side that hooks into the ruff side of the Velcro.
  • Turn the t-shirt inside out
  • Pin the hook side of the Velcro (face up) to bottom hem on one side of the shirt
  • Pin the ruff side (face up) of the Velcro to the bottom hem of hte other side of the t-shirt
  • Then sew each side of the Velcro onto the t-shirt separately by sewing along all edges of Velcro as close to the edge as possible

    Steps 4 through 9 will show you how to put the broadcloth pillow together.

    Lay both pieces of the broadcloth on your work table, right sides together. Place t-shirt on top of the broadcloth pieces.

    Trace along the outside of the t-shirt with a fabric marker.

    Step 6:
    Remove t-shirt and cut along the marked lines.

    Pin both pieces of fabric together and make sure to keep right sides of fabric together.

    Sew a 1/4" seam around fabric leaving a 4" opening at the bottom of your t-shirt pillow case.

    Turn the pillow case right side out. Stuff with fiber filling then hand stitch the opening closed.

    Step 10:
    Place pillow inside of t-shirt. Close the Velcro at the bottom of the shirt.

    Now your Pillow Buddy is ready for your little one to nap on.
