Manual or Auto Trim?

If your design is going to require trimming between letters, you must decide whether you will do the trimming manually or automatically. If using the automatic thread trimmers on the machine, then it’s acceptable to stick with the closest point of connection, though you are not restricted to it.

You should be aware that most software systems automatically insert a thread trim, if the length of a stitch between letters is greater than a specified value, when using keyboard lettering and stock fonts. Also realize that thread trim commands do not guarantee that a lock stitch has been inserted, and a lock stitch is required before and after the trim.

If you choose to hand trim the threads between letters, you should consider making the connections at the farthest point between letters. This will make it easier to manipulate your snippers. The connecting stitch should be created using a manual stitch or stitches, not a run stitch. This will ensure that the needle penetrations occur exactly where you place them. Also, you will need a lock stitch at the beginning and end of the manual stitch, so that nothing unravels after you manually trim the thread using snippers.
