Reaching Out to the Customer
Perhaps the most difficult task is to reach your customers in a manner that will catch their attention. Using the assimilated data about “who they are”, you should be able to find effective communication methods. Every group is different. Some can be reached through conventional newspaper ads, others through yellow pages, magazine ads, the Internet, direct mail, telemarketing, trade shows, special events, direct sales, radio, TV. There are a multitude of methods for reaching your intended audience, but you must choose the medium that applies to the target group. This goes back to demographics. For example, one embroiderer that specializes in corporate apparel uses ads in the airline magazines because he realizes that many business people fly on a regular basis. This has worked well for him and has become his primary advertising medium. Other embroiderers have booths at trade shows, retail websites, or sponsor special events. But perhaps the most effective technique is simply networking, which means using your personal contacts to reach out to potential clients. There are literally hundreds of methods to help you reach out to your customers. But only after you know the “who” and the “what” can you identify the “how”. |
