Intro to Marketing
Webster’s Dictionary defines Marketing as: all business activity involved in the moving of goods from the producer to the consumer, including selling, advertising, packaging, etc. There are three concepts to be considered when setting up a successful marketing campaign: Initially, most of us would say, “I want to sell embroidery to everyone!” While that may be your ultimate goal, it’s not a suitable starting point for creating a successful marketing plan. To be effective, you need to break “everyone” down into separate, distinguishable groups of people that have specific common characteristics. At this point you can begin the process of deciding what you can offer each group and the methods that should be employed to catch their attention. Typically, a successful marketing campaign is actually composed of several individual marketing plans, each focused on a different target group. Very few sales happen by accident. Most come as a result of a methodical approach that involves careful planning and execution. The next several articles in this series will delve into the three concepts listed above. The final article will apply the concepts to a specific market. |
