Too expensive? Maybe not. We routinely got involved as event sponsors for Saltwater Fishing Tournaments. These are a big deal along the North Carolina coast, where a winning fish can easily bring in $50,000 or more. With that kind of money, you can expect a lot of participation. We usually paid around $300.00 for a sponsorship. In return, we were included in the advertising, the brochures, and all promotional items. Also, we were allowed to have a booth at the tournament site where we could sell approved merchandise. We always made back much more than we spent and received a tremendous amount of exposure as well. The opportunities for sponsorships are endless. However, I do recommend that you look very closely at each event. Look for the chance to actively promote your business and its products. If all you get is your name on a T-shirt, it may not be worth the cost.
There are plenty of opportunities to sponsor teams as well as tournaments. The key aspect is to choose a Team that competes in a market that you are trying to reach. Then ensure that any sponsorship provides you with suitable exposure. For example, if you were to sponsor a race car team and only got your logo on one corner of the car, chances are you wouldn’t receive much, if any, response. On the other hand, if the members of the racing team actively promoted your company to other racing teams, fans, etc, then the investment is probably worth the cost.
