'Christmas Scene Ornaments' is a collection of 10 classic seasonal pictures. The ornaments have a hint of a farmhouse style with a raw edge finish. The embroidery designs are available in 3 sizes. The medium size (5"x5") was used for this project. The materials list shows what is needed to make one ornament. If you make the small size, a charm pack (5"x5") would work great for the ornament fabic. Flannel adds durability to the ornament and will give a more ragged edging to the ornament.
Step 1:
Read the directions before you begin the project. Gather & prepare the materials needed for the project. Iron and lightly starch the fabric.
Step 2:
Place one 6"x6" flannel on a flat surface. Lay one 6"x6" piece of neutral fabric on top of the flannel. Use a light mist of 505 Temporary spray between the layers to hold them together. Determine placement of the design on the fabric. A ruler and fabric pen is one way to mark the design placement. Another way to determine placement is using a design template. Center the design template on the fabric. Pin the design template to the fabric.
NOTE: An essential tool for embroidery position and placement is a design template. A design template is a printout of the actual size of the design. It has the center of the design identified, as well as the horizontal and vertical axis lines. An embroidery program can print a template of any design. (Embrilliance Essentials embroidery software program was used to print the design template). Print the design template.
Step 3:
Hoop one piece of cut-away stabilizer. Center the fabric and design in the hoop. Fold down the top edge of the fabric so that you can see where the edge of the design is at. Use a fabric pen to make a small mark on the stabilizer.
Step 4:
Fold the ribbon in half. Place the ends of the ribbon about 1/2" to 1" past the mark on the stabilizer. Use a dab of fabric glue to hold the ribbon in place.
Step 5:
Center the fabric in the hoop. Use the design template or the marks as a guide. Use a light mist of 505 Temporary Adhesive spray to hold the fabric in place on the stabilizer.
Step 6:
Flip the embroidery hoop to the back side. Place one 6"x6" piece of season fabric on the stabilizer using the outline of the fabric from the front side. Use a light mist of 505 Temporary spray to hold the fabric in place. Flip the embroidery hoop to the right side. Use Wonder Pins to secure all fabrics in place.
Step 7:
Load the design on the machine. A 75/11 size embroidery needle is suggested for this project. Attach the hoop to the machine. Check the stitching field area to make sure there is nothing in the way. Use the color guide to stitch the design.
Step 8:
Once the design has completed stitching, remove the hoop from the machine. Remove the fabric from the hoop. Use the pinking shears to trim excess fabric & stabilizer from around the design leaving a generous 1/4" margin. Pay close attention when cutting around the ribbon. Separate each side of the excess fabric from the ribbon when cutting near the ribbon.
Step 9:
