Child’s Snickerdoodle Baker Apron and Cap

Read through the instructions thoroughly before beginning and assemble all the materials needed to complete the project. The first thing that will be done is for the PDF to be printed on the fabric printer sheet. Once this is done, it will be used as an applique as part of the design.

Step 2:
Pull up the Snickerdoodles PDF. Be sure the printer properties are set to print at “actual size”. Place the printer sheet in the printer as indicated on the machine, and print at full color. Following the instructions on the packaging to set the ink. Cut out around the printed picture. Set aside until needed.

Step 3:
Press the apron. Fold in half lengthwise. Determine the middle placement for the design on the apron. Hoop the apron with a layer of tearaway stabilizer. Use pins or tape to help secure the curved edges of the apron down—just be sure that the pins or tape are kept out of the sewing field.

Step 4:
Remove the back of the paper from the printed picture—be careful not to stretch the fabric. Following package instructions, fuse the Heat and Bond Lite® to the back of the picture. Remove the paper backing from the adhesive. Set the applique aside until needed after Color 3 stitches.

Step 5:
Load the design on the machine. Hoop the apron, centering the design as planned. Stitch Colors 1 & 2. Stitch color 3 which is the placement line for the applique.

Step 6:
Remove the hoop from the machine but do not remove the fabric. Position the applique as shown and lightly tack it in place with an iron. Place the hoop back on the machine and continue stitching. There will be tackdown stitches, underlay, and then a satin stitch to go around the applique.

Step 7:
After the piece is stitches, remove it from the hoop and remove the excess stabilizer. Press the applique in place using a press cloth (or protective shoe as shown). Let the piece cool.

Step 8:
For the cap, in software or at the machine, use letters to form the name. Depending on the machine, the design may need to be stitched upside down. Hoop the cap with a layer of tearaway stabilizer. Choose the thread color and stitch the name. After the design as stitched, remove the excess stabilizer.

Step 9:
Give the cap and apron a final pressing. Bake Snickerdoodle cookies using your favorite recipe.
