Flat Bottom Lined Zipper Pouch Embroidery Project

Description

A lined flat bottom pouch with a zipper are great for everything! Check out this tutorial!

Materials
  • 10” POLYESTER ZIPPER
  • COTTON FABRIC FOR OUTSIDE OF POUCH - CUT (2) 10”X 8”
  • COTTON FABRIC FOR LINING - CUT (2) 10” X 8”
  • FUSIBLE INTERFACING CUT -(4) 10 X 8”
  • EMBROIDERY THREAD
  • SEWING THREAD
  • TEMPORARY ADHESIVE SPRAY (505)
  • AIR ERASE FABRIC PEN
  • CUTAWAY STABILIZER
  • BASIC SEWING SUPPLIES

    Final Product: What You Will Create


    Step 1:

    Gather all supplies and review instructions before beginning. Print out paper template of embroidery design.

    Step 2:

    Iron fusible interfacing to the wrong side of lining and outer fabrics. Cut a 1” square at the bottom corners of all pieces. ( lining and outer)

    Step 3:

    Find center of outer fabric.  Fold in half vertically then horizontally to create a folded crosshair in the body of pouch. Center place paper template and mark axis points.

    Load design file into machine. Enlarge by size 4.7” x 2.8”



    Step 5:

    Hoop stabilizer. Spray temporary adhesive spray. Center and apply outer marked pouch fabric piece matching axis points to hoop markings. Attach hoop to machine. Confirm center needle placement. Make any necessary adjustments. Begin embroidering process.

    Step 6:

    Embroidery stitch out complete. Detach hoop. Cut /trim all jump stitches and loose thread ends front and back. Remove stabilizer from back. Trim stabilizer away from design.

    Step 7:

    Pin zipper to outer fabric. Right sides together. Matching up top raw and sides edges of cut outer piece. Pin the right side of one of your lining pieces to the wrong side of the zipper matching top raw and side edges. You will be sandwiching the zipper between the outer piece and the lining. If needed use your zipper foot and stitch . Repeat for the other side of the zipper.

    Step 8:

    Iron press the fabric away from zipper. Match up cut 1” corners and bottom raw edge and top stitch both sides. Stitch through and including the lining. Due to the thickness adjust your stitch length to 3.5

    Step 9:

    Unzip zipper about ¾ of the way. Pin the two outer pieces together matching up side and bottom raw edges. Repeat with the two lining pieces. Fold the zipper teeth towards the lining pieces. Pin in place. Stitch sides and bottom using ½” seam allowance. Slowly stitch through zipper. Leave a 2” opening at the bottom of lining for turning.

    Step 10:

    Pinch the 1” cut out corners matching up seams and raw edges for an even edge. ( boxing the corners) Stitch in place using ½” seam allowance. This method will “box” your corners. Repeat for all corners.

    Step 11:

    Cut of the tails of the zipper at each ends up to the raw edge.

    Step 12:

    Turn pouch right side out through opening. Push out boxed corners. Hand or machine stitch opening closed. Push lining down into pouch.

    And your Flat Bottom Lined Zipper Pouch is done! Way to go!
