3/4" grosgrain ribbon (24")

Final Product: What You Will Create

Preface:

'Dear Santa...It was the Cat!' zippered Christmas stocking. A purr-fect gift for our feline companions.

Step 1:

Gather & prepare the materials needed for the project. Read the directions before you begin the project.

Step 2:

An 'Easy As 1-2-3 Christmas Stocking' product from 'eb' Embroidery Buddy makes embroidering on a stocking a piece of cake. Available at Sewforless.com or EmbroideryBuddy.com.

Step 3:

An essential tool for embroidery position and placement is a design template. A design template is a printout of the actual size of the design. It has the center of the design identified, as well as the horizontal and vertical axis lines. An embroidery program can print a template of any design. (Embrilliance Essentials embroidery software program was used to print the design template).

Print the design template.

Step 4:

Fold one end of the grosgrain ribbon under 1/2". Starting at one of the zippered sides, pin the grosgrain ribbon around the top of the stocking. When you reach the other zippered side, leave 1/2" of ribbon to tuck under at the end.

Step 5:

Sew around the edges of the ribbon.

Step 6:

Use the design template as a placement guide on the stocking. Pin the design template onto the stocking.

Step 7:

The largest size (4.9"x5.6") design with a stitch count of 14,297 was used on the stocking. Hoop one piece of medium weight (2.5) cut away stabilizer. Mark the center on the stabilizer.

Step 8:

Match the center of the design template with the center point on the stabilizer. Match the horizontal and vertical points on the hoop and the design template.

Lightly mist 505 Temporary Adhesive spray onto the stabilizer. Gently press the stocking onto the stabilizer. Align the stocking in the hoop. Use wonder pins to secure the fabric on the stabilizer.

Step 9:

Load the design on the machine. A 75/11 size embroidery needle is suggested for this project. Attach the hoop to the machine.

Cover the stitching field with one sheet of water soluble topping. Check the stitching field area to make sure there is nothing in the way. Use the color guide to stitch the design.

Step 10:

Once the design has completed stitching, remove the hoop from the machine. Remove the stocking from the hoop. Gently remove the water soluble topping. Trim excess stabilizer from around the design leaving about 1/2" margin. If needed, trim long threads from the back of the design.

Step 11:

Zip the sides up. Easy as 1-2-3! WTG! It's purr-fect!
