Final Product: What You Will Create

    Preface:
Make camping life easier with a 'Camping Travel Pillow'.   The pocket is a handy place to tuck trip necessities.  Personalize the pillow by adding a name.

    Step 1:
Gather & prepare the materials needed for the project.  Read the directions before you begin the project.  Iron the fabrics.   Lightly starch the piece of fabric for the pocket.

    Step 2:
An essential tool for embroidery position and placement is a design template.  A design template is a printout of the actual size of the design.  It has the center of the design identified, as well as the horizontal and vertical axis lines. An embroidery program can print a template of any design.  (Embrilliance Essentials embroidery software program was used to print the design template).

    Print the design template.

    Step 3:
Fold the 19”x15” piece of fabric for the pocket in half.  The pocket will measure 9.5”x15” (height x width).  Iron the fold line of the fabric.

Place the one sided fusible fleece on the inside of the pocket fabric.

    Step 4:
Follow package directions to fuse the fleece to the fabric.  Trim any overlapping fusible fleece from around the edges.

    Step 5:
Center the design template on the pocket.

NOTE:  Don't place the design too low on the pocket fabric.  Allow about a 3" space from the lower edge of the pocket fabric to the bottom of the design. The design needs to be placed higher on the pocket fabric for better visibility.

    Step 6:
The size of the design is 4.8"x4.8" with a stitch count of 10,578.  Hoop one piece of light weight (2.0) tear away stabilizer.

Mark the center on the stabilizer.  Match the center of the design template with the center point on the stabilizer.  Match the horizontal and vertical points on the hoop and the design template.

Use a light mist of 505 Temporary Adhesive spray on the stabilizer.  Press the fabric onto the stabilizer.  Use wonder pins to secure the fabric on the stabilizer.

    Step 7:
Load the design on the machine.  A 80/12 size embroidery needle is suggested for this project.  Attach the hoop to the machine.  Check the stitching field area to make sure there is nothing in the way.  Use the color guide to stitch the design.

    Step 8:
Load the design on the machine.  A 80/12 size embroidery needle is suggested for this project.  Attach the hoop to the machine.  Check the stitching field area to make sure there is nothing in the way.  Use the color guide to stitch the design.

    Step 9:
Top stitch along the top edge of the pocket.  Top stitch 1/4" seam along the top edge of the pocket.  Then, top stitch a 1/2" seam along the top edge of the pocket.

    Step 10:
Next, you need the two pieces for the back (10"x15").  Fold one edge down 1/2" on one long side and press with an iron.  Fold the edge down another 1/2" and press.

    Step 11:
Sew a 1/4" seam along the folded edge on each backing piece.

    Step 12:
Place the 15"x15" front fabric piece on a flat surface with the right side up.
Place the pocket on the lower half of the fabric.  Pin the pocket to the front fabric.

    Step 13:
Pin the webbing for the handle 3" from each side of the pillow.

    Step 14:
Place one back piece on the left side of the pillow with raw edges aligned.

    Step 15:
Place the second back piece on the right side of the pillow with the raw edges aligned.  Square the raw edges if needed.  Pin all the way around the edges of the pillow.

NOTE:  The hemmed edges on the back pieces will overlap several inches.

    Step 16:
Stitch a 1/2" seam all the way around the pillow.  Reinforce the stitches on the side that has the handles.  Clip the tip off of each corner after sewing.

    Step 17:
Turn the pillow through the back opening.  Slide the pillow insert into the opening.

    Step 18:
Congrats!  You have completed a 'Camping Travel Pillow'.  Sew Much Fun!

Beautiful things come together one stitch at a time...
