Fixing embroidery mistakes

If you sew the wrong design or wrong design colors on a garment what do you do? A lot of embroiderers immediately get out an assortment of thread removal tools and start picking the design out.

STOP! Before you do this, take some time to figure out what makes the best financial sense. Picking out thread takes a lot of time and concentration. Even if you can run other orders while trying to remove the defective logo, your production will suffer. In many cases because you end up without any production at all.

As an example, if your normal production yields about $60.00/hour and you lose 15 minutes while picking out thread, it cost you $15.00 to salvage the garment. (This assumes you were successful in removing the thread and didn’t create a hole where the logo was supposed to be.) If the garment was only worth $10.00, did you make the right decision to pick out the thread?

Dollarwise – NO. But there may have been other factors to consider, such as it was a garment that was not easily replaced. Or it might have been a rush order that had to be delivered by the end of the day.

Bottomline, consider all factors before you choose to pick out a defective design from a garment.
