Runner’s Bottle Koozie Embroidery Project

Description

Begin with a purchase neoprene koozie and make a bottle holder for a runner who also loves wine!

Final Product: What You Will Create

Step 1:

Read through the instructions thoroughly before beginning and assemble all the materials needed to complete the project. In software or at the machine, make each line and the background a color of your choice. Chose thread colors that will be contrast and compliment the neoprene koozie. Print out the design template. Unless the stitching was taken apart on this koozie, the top area is the only embroiderable area.

Step 2:

Fold the top of the koozie in half lengthwise and mark with tailor’s chalk. Next, fold the bottom of the open hole to the top of the stitched area on the main part of the koozie and mark.

Step 3:

Cut out the template and center it on the marks just made, matching the center points.

Step 4:

Find a hoop that is larger than the embroidery area—a 5” x7” hoop was used for the project. Hoop a piece of adhesive tearaway stabilizer, paper side up. Score and remove the protective paper to expose the tacky adhesive.

Step 5:

Fold back the other top part of the koozie.

Step 6:

Align the koozie embroidery area to the hoop. This is where it is very helpful to have a gridded mat to aid in alignment. Press down firmly on the koozie to secure it to the adhesive.

Step 7:

One thing to keep I mind is the size of the foot on the machine and the area, indicated by the yellow dotted line, where the rest of the koozie is folded back. Load the design on the machine and align the needle to the center of the crosshairs. Before this design was stitched, I did have to shrink the size just a tiny bit so the front of the foot wouldn’t hit the fold.

Step 8:

Remove the template and stitch the design.

Step 9:

After the design stitches, trim any jump threads

Step 10:

and remove the excess stabilizer. Steam away the tailor’s chalk. Note: do not touch the iron to the neoprene.

Step 11:

Congratulations! Whether you are a runner and wine love or someone else is, this will be a fun project to create and use while hitting the trail.
