ITH Felt Christmas Gift Card Holders Embroidery Project

Create festive gift card holders with these ITH felt designs, perfect for adding a personal touch to your Christmas gifts. Each holder features charming holiday-themed elements, enhancing the presentation of your gift cards. Step-by-step instructions are included.

  • 5” x 7” embroidery hoop or larger
  • 1 12” x 9” sheet of craft felt (will make two holders)
  • 10” to 12” of 1/8” ribbon or jute cording for ties
  • Tear-away stabilizer to fit your hoop
  • Embroidery Tape
  • Awl

    Final Product: What You Will Create

    Step 1:

    Tautly hoop tear-away stabilizer in your embroidery hoop. Cut the sheet of felt in half horizontally. Cut from one half a 6” x 4 ½” rectangle and one 4 ½” x 4 ½” square. Cut a 10” to 12” length of ribbon or cord to make the tie.

    2. Run the first color stop (CS1) as a placement line for your felt. It does not matter what color thread you use as it will be trimmed off.

    Lay the 6” x 4 ½” over the placement lines so that the felt exceeds the placement lines on all sides by ¼”. Run CS 2 in any color to tack down the felt. Do not use adhesive spray.

    Follow the color chart to embroider the design. Feel free to change the colors to work with the color of felt you are using. Do not run the last two CS yet.

    The last two color stops should be sewn with the same color thread. Run the next to last color stop, which will outline the shape of the card holder.

    Remove the hoop from the machine, do not unhoop. Lay the hoop face down on a flat surface.
    Align the top edge of the 4 ½” x 4 ½” felt square at the level where the gift card holder outline angels towards the top. Tape down the sides of the felt.

    Return the hoop to the machine and run the final CS to join the card holder back to the front.

    Step 8:
    Remove the project from the hoop. Lay the 1/8” mark of a see-through ruler along the final stitching lines and trim away the excess felt on all sides. Tear-away the stabilizer from the back top of the gift card holder and from the inside of the pocket above the embroidery.

    Step 9:
    Punch a hole with an awl through the embroidered circle at the top of gift card holder.
     

    Step 10:
    Feed the ribbon or cord through the hole, tie the ends in a knot and trim the ends at an angle.

    Step 11:
    Insert the gift card of your choice.

    Step 12:
    Congratulations your first Felt Christmas Gift Card Holder is complete. Stitch up as many as you need to complete your Christmas shopping from your embroidery machine!
