This project comes together pretty quickly. Utilize your basic sewing skills to construct this smaller in size placemat as well as enhancing your embroidering skills with the embroidering of the whimsical embroidery design.
Step 1:
Gather all supplies and review instructions before beginning.

Step 2:
Print paper template of embroidery design and review design thread color chart.

Step 3:
Place 2” strips on each side top mat cut fabric 8” x 10” matching up raw edges. Right sides together. (as shown in picture). Pin in place. Stitch each side from top to bottom using ½” seam allowance. Open and iron press.
Optional tip: If fabric frays pink edges or serge/zig zag before construction.

Step 4:
Place 2” strips at top and bottom matching up raw edges. ( refer to picture) Right sides together. Pin in place and stitch using ½” seam allowance. Open and iron press. Trim excess tails of strips to size

Step 5:
Load embroidery design into machine. Cut and hoop tear away stabilizer. Mark axis points directly onto stabilizer.

Step 6:
Center position embroidery design paper template to right side of mat. Mark axis points. Spray temporary adhesive spray onto stabilizer. Center position the mat matching axis points. Use hoop marked axis points to help center if needed. Finger press down to secure.

Step 7:
Attach hoop to machine. Confirm center needle placement per your machine's instructions. Refer to embroidery design thread color chart for thread colors. Begin the embroidering process. Embroidery time approx. 15 minutes based on your machine and at 700 SPM ( stitches per minute) Increase your SPM speed and it will decrease your embroidering time.

Step 8:
Embroidering complete. Remove hoop. Cut trim all jump stitches and loose thread ends from front and back. Remove stabilizer. Iron press

Step 9:
Lightly spray temporary adhesive spray atop cut cotton batting. Lay mat front atop batting and smooth and finger press to secure.

Step 10:
Place backing fabric atop front mat with right sides together. Matching all side edges. Pin in place. Stitch all around sides using ½” seam allowance. Leave 2” opening at bottom for turning. Clip corners. Turn right side out. Turn in seam at opening. Iron press. Top stitch all sides as this will also close opening. Viola! You are done!
