Final Product: What You Will Create

    Preface:
I have used the waistband ribbing off the same sweater used to create the sweater pot cover and the sweater fall cushion. It is a great way to make use of an old sweater

    Step 1:
Gather the materials and read through the instructions before beginning. Have a copy of the color sequence on hand to refer to.

    Step 2:
Measure around the mug to determine the length of the wrap you want to create. I have left a 2” gap to accommodate the handle, this is where the elastic and button are used. I have cut my ribbing piece 19 ½” long as I am doubling it over.

    Step 3:
With your ribbing piece laid flat, mark in from the left side 3” then from the top measure down 1 ¾”, this indicates the centre of the embroidery design.

    Step 4:
Load your embroidery design to your machine, hoop the cutaway stabilizer and position the ribbing piece in place, ensuring it is centered. Pin in place with the topping film over the top and use a tackdown stitch to hold in place. Stitch out your design.

    Step 5:
Remove the design from the hoop and cut away the excess stabilizer. fold the ribbing in half lengthwise, right sides together. Form a loop with the round elastic and pin to the right side of the ribbing, half way up the wrap. Stitch down the side seam using a ½” seam, then stitch along the bottom raw edge of the wrap also. So this means the top finished edge of the ribbing is left open. Once stitched, turn the wrap right side out and press

    Step 6:
Now stitch together the top edge, through both layers to close up the wrap. Sew on the button to the right side of the wrap.

    Step 7:
Wrap it around your mug and loop the elastic over the button. Your mug cozy is complete and ready to use.
