With "back to school" quickly approaching, here are a couple of quick, inexpensive ideas for sending your kids off prepared.

Elementary student's chair back cover

This chair cover both identifies your child’s chair through creative personalization and allows a place for him/her to drop in school supplies.

Supplies needed:

  • standard size pillow case
  • embroidery design of preference
  • minimal sewing skills

Flip the open end of the pillow case inside out, down about one quarter of the way, making for a flap on the front (for embroidered personalization) and the back (for attaching to the chair), as well as leaving the inside of the pillowcase as a large pocket for storing school supplies. You will then embroider the front flap of the pillow case with the design of your choice, allowing your child to identify his/her chair. As an alternative construction, you can sew the design through both the front flap and front side of the case, which will still leave you pocket access for books, crayons, etc.

The back flap of the pillow case will go over the back of the chair and hang freely. You may also add embroidery to that side but do not sew through, as the pocket created by the fold needs to slide over the top of the chair. You will need to lift the flap and do the appropriate embroidery.

After embroidery, you will need to secure the pillow case either by hand tacking or machine tacking so that the pillow case will not unfold and fall off once hung on the chair.

This is a very inexpensive way to make your child a chair back, with lots of room for embroidery and creativity.

Here's a quick inexpensive solution to "Where are my dirty clothes? Did I leave them at a friend's, gym class, soccer practice, at the dorm?" There will be no need for you to round up the dirty clothes or make the task hard for you child. This neat little bag will work for all occasions. This bag will work for everyone and for everything you need to do. Adding a school mascot, a name, or a groovy design will give it even more pizazz, and they won't mind carrying it around until it makes its way home.

Sew this cute design, use a school mascot, or child's favorite animal, sporting event, etc. This will allow them to keep their dirty clothes in a neat bag to bring home to you. These bags are very inexpensive and very embroiderable. They are a great gift for college students and can also be used for sleepovers, camping trips, church camps, baseball games, etc.

Important Note:

Please be cautious about using first names on items that are seen in public, backpacks and jackets especially, as broadcasting a child’s first name makes them more familiar to strangers, allowing them to address the child by their first name. Stick to last names, first initial last name, or three initials. Let's make the children SAFE!
