Dritz Espadrilles shoe kit in the size needed

If the kit does not contain the canvas fabric and cotton thread, purchase those, too

Embroidery thread as stated in design sequence

Final Product: What You Will Create

Preface:

Using a kit speeds up the process of making these shoes. The kit contains the instructions, patterns, and soles. An additional purchase of the fabric and cotton canvas fabric is needed if it is not included in the kit.

Step 1:

Read through these instructions thoroughly before beginning and assemble all the materials needed to complete the project. Also, read through the instructions contained in the kit. Not all steps will be shown in these instructions because they will be contained in the kit.

Step 2:

The soles are jute on the inside and rubber on the underside. The instructions are in English, Spanish, and French. The pattern contains all the sizes. Child size 11 is being done in this project.

Step 3:

Press the cotton canvas fabric well. Cut around the pattern size needed. It was easiest to trace around the pattern and hoop the fabric as one piece.

Step 4:

Use a pencil (black pen used for these instructions so it will show up in the photos) and trace around the pattern. There is a 3/8” seam allowance all around; mark the dots for the elastic, and the center marks.

Step 5:

Trace the second upper piece, too. There is no need to reverse it as the shape is equal on both sides. Hoop the fabric with one piece of poly mesh stabilizer, centering the fabric in the hoop using the center marks from the pattern.

Step 6:

Load design “Secretly a Mermaid” on the machine. Use the trace function on the machine to make sure the design fits within the traced fabric area. Make sure it is not too close to the top.

Step 7:

Stitch the design following the color sequence. The colors for this project were changed.

Step 8:

After the first design has stitched, repeat the steps of hooping the other top section with stabilizer, and check the placement making sure the top of the mermaid is not too close to the top edge of the fabric. Stitch the design following the color sequence and using the desired colors.

Step 9:

Cut out the fabric along the traced lines, and then cut two top linings and two back canvas pieces and two back lining pieces.

Step 10:

Place the lining pieces to corresponding canvas fabric pieces, right sides together. Sew the pieces according to the kit instructions.

Step 11:

Pin the canvas to the sole according to the instructions.

Step 12:

Thread a heavy-duty needle with the cotton thread and blanket stitch the canvas to the sole.

Step 13:

You may wish to stuff the shoes to help shape them a bit before they are worn.

Step 14:

Congratulations on creating a fun pair of Espadrilles for summer time.
