5” x 7” embroidery hoop

1 yard of Natural Rustic Linen (fabric-shop.com)

2 sheets of fibrous water-soluble stabilizer to fit your hoop

Sewing thread to match your fabric

Frixion® heat removable pen

Optional: Variegated green embroidery thread Madeira (2033)

Final Product: What You Will Create

Preface:

Give your guest bath a spa like feel with these easy linen guest towels. Follow these instructions to achieve perfectly mitered corners.

Step 1:

Cut your fabric 15” x 24” or the desired size for your towel plus about 4” extra in length and width. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise and finger crease down the center. Place a print- out of the design over the fabric to determine how high you want the embroidery to be on your towels. Align the cross hairs on the center fold and push your pen through the paper to mark the center of the design. In the sample this position was 6 1/2” from the bottom of the fabric.

Step 2:

Draw a line across the fabric with the heat-removable pen at your center mark.

Step 3:

Hoop one layer of the stabilizer with the linen centering your vertical fold and horizontal draw line with the marks on the hoop.

Step 4:

Embroider the design. This is a one-color design. This design comes in multiple sizes, the 4.53” x 4.61” version was used on the samples. These towels were embroidered with a variegated Madeira (2033) to add even greater depth to this light fill design.

Step 5:

Roughly trim the stabilizer around the embroidery. The balance will be removed when you wash the towels after they are completed.

Step 6:

Fold in and press ½” around the perimeter of the towel. Fold in and press ½” in a second time.

Step 7:

Unfold the second fold so that the fabric is just folded once to the inside. Fold the corners over 1” towards the center of the towel. Each leg of the triangle folded in should measure 1”. Finger crease across the top edge of the triangle.

Step 8:

Open the folded triangle up and draw a line across the finger-creased line.

Step 9:

Fold the towel top edge to the side edge right sides together and align the ends of your drawn line. Place a pin in the corner to keep the folded drawn line together.

Step 10:

Stitch across the drawn line backstitching at the beginning and end.

Step 11:

Trim across the corner 1/8” from the seam.

Step 12:

Turn the corner to the inside using a point turner if necessary while folding the second ironed fabric fold to the inside. Repeat Steps 7 through 12 on the other three corners.

Step 13:

Press around the perimeter around the towel again to flatten the corners and prepare the edges for stitching the hem. Pin the hem and corners in place.

Step 14:

Edgestitch, that is stitch close to the inside of the hem, around the guest towel.

Step 15:

Congratulations your Linen Guest Towels are complete!
