FSL Valentine Heart Wall Hanging Embroidery Project

Description

Create a charming freestanding lace wall hanging with romantic Valentine hearts. Perfect for decorating your home or adding a sentimental touch to a homemade card. Step-by-step instructions are included.

Materials
  • 4” embroidery hoop or larger
  • Ackfeld Manufacturing wire hanger
  • Polyester embroidery thread red, pink and white 40wt
  • Red and white bobbin thread 60wt
  • Fibrous Water Soluble Stabilizer two sheets cut to fit the size hoop you are using such as Floriani Wet N Gone®. Do not use plastic type stabilizer
  • 1/8” Satin ribbon in red, white and pink
  • Cotton dishtowel-no loops

    Final Product: What You Will Create
    Preface:
    The time given is for each one of the FSL Hearts and does not include drying time. Drying time can be 3 hours to overnight depending upon the humidity level in your area. All of my FSL designs are digitized for the use of proper bobbin thread in your machine and are not digitized for winding a bobbin with the same thread you use on the top of the machine. For light colors such as the pink I use regular white bobbin thread, it hardly shows. If you cannot find red bobbins at your sewing machine dealers order 60wt embroidery thread from your favorite supplier in the same color in which you will use the regular 40wt thread in the top of your machine.

    Step 1:
    Tautly hoop two layers of fibrous water soluble stabilizer in your embroidery hoop. Make sure both layers are smooth and tight.

    Step 2:
    Insert a red bobbin if making a red heart or a white bobbin for the white or pink hearts. Be sure to use 60wt or 90wt thread if winding your own bobbins.

    Step 3:
    Run the design.

    Step 4:
    Snip off any visible tie on or tie off tails from the back of the work. Do not cut off the knot. This can be difficult to remove after you rinse the stabilizer from the project so it is best to do it now. Cut the excess stabilizer away about ½” around the heart.

    Step 5:
    Hold the heart under hot running water for just a minute to remove the excess stabilizer. We do not want to remove all the stabilizer as it will help stiffen the project.

    Step 6:
    Lay the heart on a smooth cotton dish towel and blot. Leave it on the towel until it is completely dry. This could take from 3 hours to overnight depending upon the humidity level in your area.

    Step 7:
    Cut lengths of ribbon varying 20” to 30” long. Slip one end of the ribbon through the opening at the top of each heart.

    Step 8:
    Place one section of the ribbon under the bottom of the hanger and the other over the top. Tie a knot. This is where you adjust the length of the ribbon pulling it up or down to achieve how far you want the heart to hang from the hanger. None of the hearts have to hang at any specific or equal length so adjust it to what you desire.

    Step 9:
    Tie the top of the ribbon into a bow and trim the ends. Repeat for all 7 hearts.

    Step 10:
    Congratulations your FSL Valentine Heart Wall Hanger is complete!
