There are two types of craft felt sheets available. One is two millimeters thick and has more body than the less expensive craft felt. I find the 2 mm thick felt tougher to cut out once you place the second layer on the back of these candy cane holders. Therefore the less expensive thinner felt was used in this project. I did feel like it needed a little more body after the project was complete so I sprayed the backs of the candy cane holders with Terial Magic®. This worked fine. You are free to try using either the thinner or thicker felt.
Step 1:

Simply cut the felt sheet crosswise into two equal halves. Cutting out exact measurements for each candy cane holder would not leave you enough felt for another one, this is the easiest way to have the felt cut to fit each of designs.
Step 2:

Tautly hoop the extra stable stabilizer in your hoop. Run the 1st CS (color stop) in Lt Brown Sugar as a placement line for the felt.
Step 3:

Spray adhesive on the back of the felt and position over the placement lines. Follow the color chart through the next to last color stop to embroider the sloth. Do not sew the last CS yet.
Step 4:

Remove the hoop from the machine. Do not unhoop. Place the hoop face down on a flat surface. Fold the 8” of ribbon into a loop. Place the raw edges about 1” inside the center of the top edge of the design and tape in place with cellophane tape. Tape the top edge of the ribbon to the stabilizer to keep it from moving when the final seam is sewn.
Step 5:

Place the second layer of felt over the back of the hoop and secure it to the hoop with embroidery tape.
Step 6:

Return the hoop to the machine and run the last color stop to complete the design.
Step 7:
Always trim the top of your project first; trim the stabilizer and the top felt in front of the ribbon; then hold the ribbon forward and trim the felt behind the ribbon. Then you can trim about 1/8” around the rest of the design through all layers at one time.

If desired spray Terial Magic® on the backs of the candy cane holders. Allow them to dry overnight.
Step 9:

In most cases it is obvious where the candy cane will be inserted by the opening left in the final seam stitching. For a SCCH02 and SCCH03 follow the instructions below.
Step 10:

For SCCH02 start about 1/8” under the face, measure and draw a line ¾” long just inside each arm. With sharp little scissors cut along those lines for inserting the candy cane.
Step 11:

For SSCH03 there are two black outlined buttonholes between the arms and the legs. Open those two buttonholes with a small pair of sharp scissors.
Step 12:
Insert the candy canes and your ITH Sloth Candy Cane Holders are complete!
