14” X 14” CANVAS TOTE BAG (CAN BE PURCHASED FROM ANY CRAFT STORE)

FABRIC PAINT ( 4 COLORS OF CHOICE)

DABBER BRUSH ( 3 -4)

CARD STOCK ( HEAVY WEIGHT)

12” X 12” ADHESIVE VINYL ( ANY COLOR)

CUTTING MACHINE (I.E SILHOUETTE CAMEO, CRICUT)

TRANSFER PAPER

Final Product: What You Will Create

Preface:

A BLANK STORE BOUGHT CANVAS TOTE BAG, A FUN DESIGN MADE INTO A STENCIL, AND FABRIC PAINT MAKES FOR AN EASY PROJECT FOR A CUTTING MACHINE BEGINNER.

Step 1:

Gather all your materials and review instructions before beginning. *Basic knowledge of cutting machine and how to prepare vinyl for stencil is needed.

Step 2:

Bring the SVG/Print Art design “READ” into your cutting machine software. Resize design to approx 5.5”x 10” . For silhouette cameo owners/users: if your silhouette machine has not been updated to allow working with an SVG ( cuttable ) file....You can work around this by downloading the print art design as a jpeg or png file. You will find instructions on how to work around to “cut” your design by reviewing step 4 of my Thanksgiving themed wood art/svg project tutorial.

Step 3:

Per your cutting machines instructions: Prepare your adhesive vinyl for cutting. Load your vinyl into your cutting machine. Cut design

Step 4:

Design cut complete. Weed your design for a stencil using the reverse weeding technique. REVERSE WEEDING: REMOVING THE AREA OF THE VINYL THAT WOULD NORMALLY BE LEFT BEHIND. THIS TECHNIQUE IS MAINLY USED WHEN MAKING A STENCIL.

Step 5:

Apply transfer tape to your stencil per manufacturer’s instructions.

Step 6:

If needed iron press your canvas tote bag to remove any wrinkles before applying your stencil.

Step 7:

Remove back adhesive from stencil.

Step 8:

Center position onto tote bag. When you have the stencil centered to your liking finger press to secure. Smooth out the bubbles from around the lettering/design to help avoid paint seepage from going under the stencil.

Step 9:

Place the 12” x 12” cardstock into your bag. ( This helps the paint from not seeping through to the other side)

Step 10:

Let’s get ready to paint!

Step 11:

Using your dabber(s). Paint the open areas of your stencil using your paint colors of choice. When you have painted all the open areas allow to dry approximately 10 – 15 minutes before removing stencil.

Step 12:

When dry, slowly remove the stencil slowly. If there are any pieces of vinyl adhered to your bag, remove with your tool pick.

Step 13:

Congrats! Your Book Tote Bag is now complete!
