BLANK DOOR MAT ( A 17” X 30” SIZE / ACCENT MAT WAS USED IN THIS TUTORIAL )

ADHESIVE VINYL 12” X 24” ( FOR STENCIL)

SPONGE BRUSH(S)

TRANSFER PAPER FOR VINYL

MASKING TAPE

ACRYLIC PAINT ( 3 COLORS WERE USED IN THIS TUTORIAL)

CUTTING MACHINE ( I.E SILHOUETTE CAMEO/CRICUT )

Final Product: What You Will Create

Preface:

This is a simple and fun project for all experienced cutting machine owners/users. Follow this tutorial to create a welcome mat by using acrylic paints and creating a stencil with this delightful SVG/Print Art Welcome design.

* BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF A CUTTING MACHINE AND HOW TO PREPARE VINYL FOR STENCIL IS REQUIRED.

Step 1:

Gather all materials and review instructions before beginning. (dry time is included with hours to complete project.)

Step 2:

PREPARING YOUR ADHESIVE VINYL FOR CUTTING:

Load SVG/Print Art design into your cutting machine’s software program. Per your program’s instructions resize design(enlarge) to approx. 10.7” (h) 18.3” (w) . Load your vinyl into your cutting machine. Cut design.

*For silhouette cameo owners/users: If your silhouette machine has not been updated to allow working with an SVG (cuttable) file.. You can work around this by downloading the print art design as a jpeg or png file. You will find instructions on how to work around to “cut” your design by reviewing step 4 of my Thanksgiving Themed Wood Art/SVG project tutorial.

Step 3:

Weed your design for stencil (Weeding vinyl is the process of removing the unwanted vinyl from your cut design) Cut a piece of transfer paper to cover your weeded design. Apply transfer paper per manufacturer’s instructions. Slowly remove backing paper.

Step 4:

Center stencil onto your mat. (I used a ruler to help center). When centered to your liking press down onto mat to secure.

Step 5:

Remove transfer paper.

Step 6:

If needed use masking tape and tape sides and bottom of stencil. Use your hair dryer to blow onto the vinyl as this will help to “sink” the vinyl into the mat to secure and avoid seepage when painting . ( This step is optional if your vinyl is securely sticking to your mat)

Step 7:

Select your paint colors. ( 3 colors were used in this tutorial) Begin painting by dabbing the paint onto the open (weede) areas. Once you have covered all open areas allow paint to dry. If needed apply a 2nd coat of paint(s).

Step 8:

Remove your stencil slowly from your mat. Woohoo! Congratulations! Your Welcome door mat is finished!
