Final Product: What You Will Create

    Preface:
There are many websites online that list the colors of ribbons to make for all of the causes they represent. Type “Awareness Ribbons colors and causes” in your internet browser to find the information you need.

Materials may be purchased from any supplier, but I thought it would help you if you knew where I purchased mine. I ordered some of the canvas-backed marine vinyl from both Amazon and Mikri World LLC on line. There was quite a difference in the thickness of the vinyl. The Mikri World LLC vinyl is approximately 1mm thick. The vinyl purchased on Amazon was probably only 1/2mm thick. Either can be used, but with the thinner vinyl, I suggest you use two layers of cut away stabilizer. The Glitter Mirror Vinyl has a thin layer of vinyl over the glitter so that it has a smooth and the glitter does not come off as it is stitched. I purchased the Glitter Mirror Vinyl from Mikri World LLC too but it is available in other places.

The Kam Snaps are optional. I preferred the “Long” size 20 Kam Snaps® on the thicker vinyl and the short ones on the thinner vinyl. I ordered the Kam Snaps pliers from Amazon but had to go to Kam Snaps own website to get the longer pronged snaps. If you don’t have a Kam Snaps® pliers you can insert the key ring circle into the extension on the key fob, fold it over and stitch it down with your sewing machine.

    Step 1:

Cut 2 marine vinyl rectangles 6” x 3 1/2” and two pieces of vinyl 3” x 3.5” for the ribbon appliques. Personally, I preferred the thicker vinyl for the 6” x 3 ½” rectangles and the thinner vinyl for the ribbon appliques, but either can be used. If using the thinner vinyl for the body of the key fob you may want to use two layers of stabilizer in your hoop.

    Step 2:
Run the 1st color stop (CS 1) as a placement line for the vinyl.

    Step 3:
Spray adhesive on the back of the vinyl and position over the placement line.

    Step 4:
Run CS 2 as a placement line for the right leg of the ribbon.

    Step 6:
Run CS 3 in either a matching or contrasting thread to tack down the applique.

    Step 7:
Remove the hoop from the machine, do not unhoop, and trim the applique.

    Step 8:
Return the hoop to the machine. Run CS 4 as a placement line for the second leg of the ribbon. Spray the second applique piece with adhesive and position over the tack down lines. Run CS 5 to tack down the applique.

    Step 9:
For the four designs that contain lettering run CS 6 to stitch the lettering. Then trim the applique as in Step 7.

    Step 10:
Turn the hoop wrong side up, spray the remaining 6” x 3 ½” piece of vinyl and align over the vinyl that is on the front.

    Step 11:
Return the hoop to the machine and stitch the last CS to seam the two layers of vinyl together.

    Step 12:
Trim the excess stabilizer around the vinyl. You will find it easier to cut out the key fob if you notch into the corners at the top of the curves.

    Step 13:
Trim around the key fob with about a 16th “outside the seam stitching.

    Step 14:
Fold the top tab off the key fob in half. With an awl poke a hole through both layers of the tab in about the center of the tab.

    Step 15:
Following the manufacturer’s instructions insert the KamSnaps® into the tab. The outside of both snaps will be on the front of the tab.
