  • Placemats (in quantity needed for your table)
  • Embroidery thread as stated in embroidery sequence
  • Two layers of tearaway stabilizer to fit hoop for each placemat

  • Designs used in this project

Final Product: What You Will Create

    Preface:
This project is very fast and very easy because it begins with purchased placemats. The colors embroidered in the placemat were coordinated with the purchased tree bulbs that decorated the table centerpiece.

    Step 1:
Gather the materials and read through the instructions before beginning. Print out a paper template of the design. For this project, the colors in the embroidery design were coordinated with the tree bulbs used for the centerpiece. The placemats used in the project were ordered from Xia Home Fashions on Amazon (Xia Home Fashions Polka Dot Embroidered Easy Care Placemats, 13 by 19-inch, green, Set of 4).

    Step 2:
Cut out the design template and pin it in the upper left-hand corner. To be sure each placemat is done exactly the same, measure to the center of the template from the inside of the border edge. Write down the measurements so they can be repeated accurately for all the placements.

    Step 3:
Hoop the placemat with two layers of tearaway stabilizer. I used a hoop larger than needed so that I had more “fudge” room for aligning the needle to the template. Stitch the design using the color sequence and thread colors you have chosen.

    Step 4:
Remove the placemat from the hoop and remove the stabilizer, one layer at a time. Repeat steps 2-4 for the remaining placemats, using the measurements in step 2 to accurately place the design on each placemat.

    Step 5:
Congratulations! These fast and easy placemats are sure to delight family and guests for a quick winter snack, holiday breakfast, or a special dinner.
