Five 1 ½ x 5” strips in coordinating fabric

Four 1” x 5” strips in coordinating fabric

Preface:

A mini fall quilt perfect for a tabletop stand or wall hanging. This project combines machine embroidery, sewing, and basic quilting skills.

Step 1:

Collect the materials needed for this project. Read the directions and prepare the materials. Exact sizes of materials are found in the materials list. You may print a design template and color chart if needed.

Step 2:

There are five designs in this project. Each design will use one 6”x6” piece of neutral fabric on top of two pieces of No Show Mesh Stabilizer in the hoop. One piece of the No Show Mesh has been placed at an angle for added support.

Step 3:

Load the designs to your machine. Stitch the designs. Trim excess stabilizer from the back of each design.

Step 4:

Trim each block to 5” x 5” square.

Step 5:

For the first row of blocks, you will use a 1”x5”, the 5”x5” Autumn block, 1 ½” x 5” strip, the 5” x 5” Fall block, and a 1” x 5” strip. Sew the fabric together in this order using ¼” seam.

Step 6:

For the second row, you will stitch the blocks together in this order:1” x 5” strip, 1 ½” x 5” strip, 1 ½” x 5” block, the 5” x 5” New for Fall block, 1 ½ “ x 5”, and then a 1” x 5”.Use ¼” seam.

Step 7:

For the third row, you will stitch the blocks together in this order: the 5” x 5” ‘Celebrate Fall’ , then a 1 ½” x 5” strip, and then the ‘Harvest Time’ blocks using ¼” seam.

Step 8:

Sew a 1 1/2" x 13" strip to the top of the 'Celebrate Fall' and 'Harvest Time' row using 1/4" seam.

Step 9:

Sew the 'New for Fall' row to the 'Celebrate Fall' and 'Harvest Time' row using 1/4" seam.

Step 10:

Sew a 1 1/2" x 13" strip to the top of the 'New for Fall' row using a 1/4" seam.

Step 11:

Sew the 'Autumn' and 'Fall' strip to the strip above the 'New for Fall' row using a 1/4" seam.

Step 12:

Square the fabric edges. Your project should measure approximately 12" x 16". Cut the low nap batting the size of your project. Use temporary adhesive spray to attach the batting to the back of the project. Smooth surface.

Step 13:

Place the backing fabric wrong side facing you on a flat surface. Place the mini quilt on the fabric. You should have 1 1/2" allowance for the self binding backing. Trim fabric if needed so that you have this allowance.

Step 14:

Lightly mist temporary adhesive spray on the back of the mini quilt. Press gently onto the backing. Smooth the surface.

Step 15:

Fold the trim in half and fold over again. Press in place.

Step 16:

Top stitch around the edge with a straight or decorative stitch.

Step 17:

Top stitch around each block. A decorative stitch was used in the example.
