This fall pillow cover will accent any harvest seasonal room décor. A wheat embroidery design along with an embroidered harvest charm will add a little character to your fall decorations.
This fall pillow cover with an envelope backing stitches up quickly. A wheat embroidery design that is embroidered three times to create the full wheat design or create the full design on your embroidery software program. The “Gather” harvest charm with fringed edges will add vintage charm to any of your fall décor.
Step 1:
Gather all materials and review instructions before beginning.

Step 2:
If you have an embroidery software program, create your wheat design using your embroidery software’s instructions. Bring the wheat design into your program. The design used in this tutorial, I created by arranging 3 wheat designs horizontally and then angling the designs to create an approximate size of 5’ x 7” design. Print template. If you do not have an embroidery software program… print out template 3 times for marking placement on your pillow cover.

Step 3:
Cut fabric pieces:
Front pillow cover
(1) main fabric 13” x 7”
(1) contrasting fabric 13” x 7” (1) 6 “ X 4” for “ Gather” embroidery charm
Envelope back: (1) 11” x13 ½” main fabric
(1) 10” x 13 ½” main fabric
Total: 6 cut pieces

Step 4:
Hoop sticky stabilizer and remove paper to reveal adhesive. Center mark with crosshair for placement.

Step 5:
Using your main fabric cut piece. If you used an embroidery software program to create your wheat design you will now fold in half then half again. Fingertip press to create crosshair. If you did not create with an embroidery software program you will center place your design templates to create your horizontal wheat design and mark center placement of each design with chalk pen or fabric air pen. You will need to embroider the single wheat design 3 times using your center marks and repeating the embroidery process.

Step 6:
Load your wheat design, attach hoop to your machine and begin embroidering process.

Step 7:
Once the design is complete. Remove from machine. Cut all jump stitches and loose thread ends. Carefully remove the stabilizer.

Step 8:
Using your embroidered cut piece and your cut contrasting piece. Place right sides together. Stitch using ¼” seam allowance along the long side.

Step 9:
Press seam to the “dark side”.

Step 10:
Using your 6”x 4” cut piece. Embroider your “Gather” charm. Hoop stabilizer. Fold cut piece in half then half again for a fingertip pressed crosshair. Center place onto stabilizer. Begin the embroidering process. Once complete. Remove from machine. Cut all jump stitches and loose thread ends. Carefully remove the stabilizer.

Step 11:
Trim piece to approx. 5 ½” x 3” . Fringe all side edges by using a straight pin and carefully remove weaved threads to create “fringe”.

Step 12:
Center “charm” on the contrasting fabric 2” up from bottom edge. Pin in place.

Step 13:
Stitch using scant ¼” seam allowance from all sides. This will also keep the “ charm” fringe from fraying.

Step 14:
Using your envelope back cut fabric pieces. Fold down approx 1” on the 13” side press and fold over again. Repeat for the 2nd envelope piece. Press.

Step 15:
Straight stitch down using 1/8 ” seam allowance from the folded edge.

Step 16:
You should now have 3 pieces to construct a pillow cover. With right sides together, Place the largest envelope back down first then the next envelope back piece. The pieces will overlap to form the flap. Pin in place. Sew all sides using ¼” seam allowance. Serge or zig zag all sides to prevent fraying. Trim corners.

Step 17:
Turn right side out. Press all seamed edges. Viola! Your Fall Accent Pillow Cover is now complete. Just add your pillow insert!
