Back to School Lanyard Embroidery Project

An embroidery software program was used (Embrilliance Essentials) to create the personalized design template for this project.  Use your software program and create your template using the 'Balloon' font and star embroidery design.  Lettering must be sized to 1/2" in order for it to fit onto the lanyard.  

 

Gather the materials needed for this project.  Read the directions carefully.  Iron and starch the fabric. 

Fold the strip in half lengthwise.  Iron a crease at the fold.  

 

Lay the fabric on a table top with the wrong side facing you.  Fold the edges 1/2" along each side.  Iron along the fold lines.   

Fold the lanyard in half making a loop.  Match the ends of the lanyard together.  The lanyard should measure about 21" in total length folded.  Measure 18" from the loop.  

 

Pin the ends of the lanyard together.  Use a zig-zag stitch along the edges on the ends.    

 

Sew the sides below the seam line together using the 1/8" seams as your guide.   

Slip the fabric over the lanyard hook.  Fold the fabric back about 1" so that it goes just past your seam line.  Pin the fabric in place.  

 

Sew a straight seam.  Reinforce the stitching by sewing over the seam line again.  

Hoop the stabilizer.  Mark the center point and axis on the stabilizer.  Use the design template to place the lanyard on the stabilizer.  Placement will vary depending on the length of the design template.  

 

 

Load the embroidery design.  Stitch the design.

 

Remove the design from the machine.  Trim any long threads if needed.

 

Remove the lanyard from the hoop.  Cut excess water-soluble stabilizer from the lanyard.  Use a damp cloth to remove any bits and pieces of the water-soluble stabilizer.
