making this yard flag! A burlap yard flag spotlighting one of America’s favorite past times! Get ready to enjoy ‘Take Me Out To The Ball Game’ in a patriotic color theme.
Step 1:
Gather the materials. Read through the instructions before beginning.

Step 2:
On the wrong side of the flag, determine placement for the design. Measure 2.75” from the top and mark the fabric. The flag in the example has ruffles; so, I measured from the top of the last row of ruffles for the bottom margin.

Step 3:
Mark the center between the margins.

Step 4:
Find the center of the width of the flag.

Step 5:
Cutaway stabilizer was used because of the open weave of the burlap fabric and the high stitch count of the design. Hoop the cut-away stabilizer. Mark the center point and axis on the stabilizer.

Step 6:
Fold the flag in half lengthwise with right sides together. Align the flag with the center point on the stabilizer.

Step 7:
Spray the opposite side the stabilizer with a temporary adhesive spray. Fold the flag down onto the stabilizer. Press gently and smooth fabric. Repeat these steps for the other side of the towel.

Place the Water Soluble Stabilizer on top of the flag. Pin the stabilizer in place.

Load the embroidery design on your machine. Stitch the design. Use the color guide on the machine and printed chart as a guide.

Remove the flag from the hoop. Gently tear away the water soluble stabilizer. Use the white bee hive tip on the seam ripper to remove hard to get areas.

Trim the cutaway stabilizer about ¼” around the design.

Iron the fat quarter fabric. Cut a piece of the fat quarter fabric slightly larger than the cut away stabilizer.

Cut a piece of Heat n Bond lite the size of the fabric. Place the rough side of the Heat n Bond lite face down to the WRONG SIDE of the fabric. Follow the directions on the package of the Heat n Bond lite to adhere it to the fabric. Use a dry, hot iron for approximately 10 seconds using a lift and press action.DO NOT use a gliding motion with the iron.
