Materials
  • Purchased doll with removeable clothing (project doll from Discount Embroidery Blanks)
  • 1-Pacifier
  • 1- 10” piece of ½” elastic
  • Embroidery thread as stated in color sequence
  • Adhesive tearaway stabilizer

  • Designs used in this project

    Preface:
Begin with a precious little doll, add embroidery, attach a pacifier, and you’ll have a sweet companion for a little one.

    Step 1:
Gather the materials and read through the instructions before beginning. Print out a paper template of the design and color sequence. Purchase a doll with removeable clothing.

    Step 2:
This doll has a skirt and slip that are attached at the bodice with hook and loop fastener at the back for a closure. Remove the dress and press the skirt.

    Step 3:
Find the center front of the skirt. Place pins to mark the center of the skirt front.

    Step 4:
It is easiest to use an adhesive stabilizer for a project like this. Hoop an adhesive tearaway stabilizer, paper side up, in the hoop. Use a pin to score the paper around the inside of the hoop and also make an “x” from corner to corner in the hoop. Use the tip of the pin to lift the paper at the center of the X and then lift it and rip it against the rim of the hoop.

    Step 5:
Repeat for the remaining sections. Load the Pacifier embroider design on the machine and place the hoop on the machine. Because all machines are different, at this point determine the best method for positioning the dress in the hoop.

    Step 6:
Center the pin mark under the needle and then smooth the fabric into position on the stabilizer. If necessary, rotate the design at the machine so it will stitch in the correct direction on the little dress.

    Step 7:
Use the feature on the machine to check the stitching outline of the design.

    Step 8:
Be sure to keep the excess dress out of the way and stitch the design following the color sequence.

    Step 9:
Continue to follow the color sequence until the entire design is stitched.

    Step 10:
After the design has finished stitching, remove the fabric from the stabilizer.

    Step 11:
Determine the position for the pacifier and elastic. Open the seam on the skirt/bodice just enough to slide the elastic through. Place the other end of the elastic through the pacifier.

    Step 12:
Slide that second end behind the first through the opening and stitch the seam closed through both layers of elastic. Zig zag back and forth over the end of the elastic to secure and cut off the tails.

    Step 13:
Now zig-zag the two pieces of elastic together to secure them tightly. Stitch up as close as you can from the top of the elastic to the pacifier. Give the skirt a final press and dress the doll.
