Final Product: What You Will Create

Preface:

Because all bouquets are different sizes, general directions will be given to create the project. Adjust the fabric and batting amount to accommodate the bouquet you are working with.

Step 1:

Gather the materials and read through the instructions before beginning. Print out a paper template of each of the designs and color sequence.

Step 2:

Generally, determine how much fabric will be needed. Cut a piece of fabric and wrap it around the handle. You’ll want a generous piece of fabric which will be embroidered and then cut down to fit. For this project a piece 8” x 10” was cut. After the embroidery is done and the stabilizer trimmed, the lower edge will be sewn together. Fold the fabric lengthwise and pin the edges together. Fold the short ends together to find the center of the fabric.

Step 3:

Cut out the paper template and figure out how it will fit onto the bouquet after the embroidery is stitched. Resize the design if needed and test again. Place the paper template in place along the center fold line and centered between the stitching line and the long fold line. Hoop the fabric with a piece of stabilizer.

Step 4:

Align the needle to the center of the paper template. Embroider the design with the chosen colors. For the project, blue embroidery thread was chosen for a “something blue” in a wedding.

Step 5:

After the design has finished stitching, remove the fabric from the hoop and trim away the excess stabilizer; press the fabric well. As was originally planned, bring the two long edges together.

Step 6:

Pin the edges and sew using a ¼” seam. Press the seam to set the stitches and then press the seam open.

Step 7:

Turn the fabric right side out and press along the seam line, rolling the seam slightly to the underside. Cut a piece of polyester batting the length and width of the fabric. Insert the batting into the center of the embroidered piece.

Step 8:

To figure out how much to cut off, wrap the piece around the bouquet stems and add about 1” beyond the group of stems and cut off the fabric and batting. On one end, turn under the fabric edges ½” and press to crease. Edge stitch along this edge.

Step 9:

Readjust the batting so it fills out the corners and trim away any excess batting. Fold under the remaining edge ½”. Wrap the fabric around the bouquet stems with the folded edge on top and pin in place.

Step 10:

Use a ladder or slip stitch to sew the folded edge to the wrap, securing the ends.

Step 11:

Congratulations on creating a beautiful handle wrap. The wrap makes a nice keepsake for the bride and also a soft handle for carrying the bouquet down the aisle.
