Final Product: What You Will Create

    Preface:
Please read all of the instructions for assembly of this project as they are different from the techniques I usually use. One piece of fabric is used for backing in this easy to assemble wall hanging.

    Step 1:
Cut 4 10” squares each of the linen, Battilizer® and knit interfacing.

    Step 2:
Following the manufacturer’s instructions fuse the knit interfacing to the back of the linen squares.

    Step 3:
Tautly hoop no show stabilizer in an 8” x 8” or larger embroidery hoop, load the design and run color stop (CS) 1 in white as a placement line.

    Step 4:
Spray adhesive on the interfacing side of the linen square and position right side up over the placement lines so that the fabric exceeds the placement line by ½” on all sides. Run CS 2 in water soluble thread to tack down the fabric.

    Step 5:
Follow the color chart through the next to last color stop. Do not run the CS for the water soluble thread yet.

    Step 6:
Remove the hoop from the machine, do not unhoop. Turn the hoop face down on a flat surface; spray adhesive of a 10” square of Battilizer® and position over the original placement lines so that the Battilizer® exceeds the placement lines by ½” on all sides.

    Step 7:
Return the hoop to the machine and stitch the next to last CS in water soluble thread.

    Step 8:
This wall hanging does not have traditional quilting stitches. Stitching the lettering through the block front and Battilizer® will serve as the quilting. As some of the lettering is running stitch lettering it will sew more clearly if you use a black bobbin. Put the black bobbin in the machine now and stitch the lettering.

    Step 9:
Remove the project from the hoop. It can be difficult to see the water soluble stitches on the linen to trim the block. Marking the water soluble thread tack down lines with a Frixion® heat removable pen will help you line up your ruler to trim the sides of the block to ¼” seam allowances.

    Step 10:
Repeat the above instructions to stitch out all four blocks. Arrange as desired.

    Step 11:
Press each block to remove the Frixion® pen.

    Step 12:
With white thread in your sewing machine, choose a wide zigzag stitch (5mm); butt the two top blocks together and zigzag together.

    Step 13:
After stitching the two blocks should lie flat next to each other without gaps or overlaps.

    Step 17:
Press the 1” strip with spray starch then run it through the ½” bias tape maker to make the sashing.

Following Steps 19 through 21 position and stitch the sashing down the vertical center seam of the wall hanging.
