Description

ITH Easter Gift Card Holders are quick to make and a lovely way to send a gift card to someone dear. If you leave the pocket off of the back that also make great gift tags.

Materials

For each gift card holder:

5” x 7” embroidery hoop

2 5 ½” x 4” Easter colored prints or solids cotton fabric

1 8” x 4” rectangle of Easter print cotton fabric

1 5 ½” x 4” rectangle of firm fusible interfacing such as Pellon Craft Fuse 809®

13” of 1/8” ribbon

Two layers of Fibrous Water Soluble Stabilizer to fit your embroidery hoop

Spray adhesive

Embroidery Tape

Awl

Bobbin filled with thread to match your border thread

Terial Magic® or Magic Sizing®

Small ruler

Sharpie pen

Final Product: What You Will Create

Preface:

The bobbin thread is seen on the back of the border stitches on these gift card holders so it should match the top thread. A regular white bobbin should be used when embroidering the main parts of these designs, just change to the colored bobbin for the final border stitches.

Step 1:

Cut your fabrics to the sizes specified in the Materials list.

Step 2:

To reduce fraying of the fabrics starch them heavily and press. Terial Magic® is like a super starch and will produce a crisp fabric with just one application. If using Magic Sizing® spray and press your fabric about 4 times. Fold the 8” x 4” pocket fabric in half. Apply the Pellon Craft Fuse 809® to the back of one of the fabric 5 ½” x 4” rectangles following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Step 3:

Hoop two layers of fibrous water soluble stabilizer. Run color stop (CS) 1 as a placement line.

Step 4:

Spray adhesive on the Pellon Craft Fuse side of 4” x 5 ½” rectangle and position over the placement line so that approximately ½” exceeds the placement line on all sides. Run CS 2 to tack down the top fabric.

Step 5:

Remove the hoop from the machine, do not unhoop, and trim the fabric right next to the tack down stitches.

Step 6:

Follow the color chart to embroidery the design.

Step 7:

Remove the hoop from the machine and place the hoop face down on a flat surface. Lay the ruler across the gift card holder at the point that the angled portion begins. And mark two lines on the stabilizer. These marks will tell you the height at which you will place the pocket.

Step 8:

Spray adhesive on the remaining 4” x 5 ½” fabric rectangle and position over the back of the gift card holder so that approximately ½” of fabric exceeds the placement lines.

Step 9:

Position the folded edge of the pocket with the drawn lines and tape into position along the side edges of the fabrics. Tip: Extend the tape all the way to the top of the hoop if you have any problems with it coming loose while stitching the pockets down.

Step 10:

Remember to change your bobbin to the matching thread bobbin.

Step 11:

Return the hoop to the machine and run the next to last color stop to tack down the back fabric and the pocket.

Step 12:

Remove the hoop from the machine, do not unhoop, trim the back fabrics right next to the tack down stitches.

Step 13:

Return the hoop to the machine and run the final color stop to border the gift card holder.

Step 14:

Cut away the stabilizer about ¼” around the project. Open the hole with an awl.

Step 15:

Wet a small cloth or cotton swab with hot water and run around the edges of the gift card holder to remove the stabilizer.

Step 16:

Cut a 13” length of 1/8th” ribbon and knot the ends together.

Step 17:

Loop the ribbon through the hole to make a hanger.

Step 18:

Insert a gift card into the pocket.

Step 19:

Congratulations your Easter Gift Card Holder is complete. Make one for everyone on your gift card list!
