Candy Land Potholder Embroidery Project

Floating is a method of hooping the stabilizer only for a design.  The item(potholder) is placed securely on top of the stabilizer with a temporary spray adhesive and pins if needed.  

 

Hoop one piece of tear-away stabilizer.  Mark the center point in the hoop and the midpoint on the outer edges on the stabilizer.  

 

Using an erasable fabric marker, mark the center point and midpoint on the outer edges on the potholder. 

 

Put a stick pin in the center point.  Fold the potholder in half.  Align the stick pin with the center point on the stabilizer.  Lightly spray the stabilizer using temporary adhesive.  Unfold the potholder.  Press gently to adhere potholder to the stabilizer.  Repeat for the other half.  Spray adhesive and press gently.

Begin sewing.  Follow the steps on the color chart.  Regular machine embroidery is used on everything in the design except the candy cane. 

 

Puffy Foam is used to add dimension to a design.  A piece of puffy foam   is placed on your item securely and then you stitch over top of the foam. Puffy foam is often used for lettering on caps.   

 

The candy cane is stitched in two steps.  The first step is the white base of the candy cane.  Next, place the puffy foam on top of the white base.  Use clear tape to hold the puffy foam in place.  Stitch the stripes.  The stitching will perforate the foam.  Gently remove the remaining foam.  Use a hot iron to smooth any rough edges on the stripes.
