There are so many things you can do with FSL Celtic Knots. Let you imagination run wild to create a pin or necklace to wear on Saint Patrick’s Day or make bookmarks for your Irish friends.

Materials

2 layers of Fibrous Water Soluble Stabilizer for each hooping

5” x 7” embroidery hoop for the long knot

4” x 4” embroidery hoop for all the other designs

Celtic Green Polyester embroidery thread

Green Polyester 60 weight bobbin

Assorted Embellishments such as:

An old necklace chain and pins

¼” ribbon

Beads with large holes for the ribbon to go through

Hot Fix Crystals®

Clear craft glue

Key ring with lobster clasp

Final Product: What You Will Create

Preface:

The time to complete this project includes 3 hours drying time. The knots all have various sewing time, but because they are small enough to become pins or to hang from a necklace chain they don’t take long to stitch out. I made these from craft supplies on hand and old things found in my jewelry box. I hope these instructions inspire you to rummage through yours to see what you can create.

Step 1:

Tautly hoop two layers of fibrous water soluble stabilizer.

Step 2:

Use polyester embroidery thread in the top of your machine and 60 weight thread in your bobbin. Rayon thread would be too soft for these projects.

Step 3:

Stitch out the design.

Step 4:

Trim away the excess stabilizer from around the design.

Step 5:

Hold under hot running water just long enough to clear the stabilizer.

Step 6:

Lay on a loop free cotton dish towel to dry.

Step 7:

It will take about 3 hours for that first design to dry so stitch out a few more while you wait.

Step 8:

Slip a gold chain through the loop at the top of the shamrock to make a fun necklace to wear on Saint Patrick’s Day. I’ll probably have to give this one to my sister as it is her birthday is on Saint Patrick’s Day.

Step 9:

I’ve turned the long knot into a bookmark by cutting two lengths of 1/4” ribbon 24” long and knotting them together through the top loop.

Step 10:

A large eye needle is threaded onto the end of the ribbon and then fed through assorted beads.

Step 11:

Make a large knot in the end of the ribbon to prevent the beads from falling off. Trim the ribbon ends at a slant.

Step 12:

A simple stick pin is fed through the background portion of this Celtic knot and can be used on a shirt or a hat to show your Irish on Saint Patrick’s Day.

Step 13:

A simple key ring with a lobster clasp is threaded through the loop of this Celtic Knot which will look great clipped to a ring or zipper pull on my purse.

Step 14:

Hot Fix Crystals® can be used to embellish any of the Celtic knots, be sure to use the right size tip on the applicator for the various sized crystals so that you do not burn your free standing lace.

Step 15:

Rummage through your craft supplies to come up with other applications for these fun FSL Celtic Knots.
