Decorated onesie garments are always a favorite gift for new moms. Create one using embroidery and colorful ric rac.
Step 1:
Gather the materials and read through the instructions before beginning. Print out a paper template of the design and color sequence.

Step 2:
Press the ric rac and onesie. Fold the onesie in half matching shoulders, armholes and side seams and lightly press along the center front.

Step 3:
Cut out the design from the paper template and position as desired on the garment. Hoop the onesie with two layers of poly mesh stabilizer. Wrap the excess fabric toward the front of the hoop yet out of the way of the stitching area. Secure the fabric in place with tape (either packing tape or painters tape) and secure the tape to the bottom of the hoop - just be sure to keep it out of the area to be stitched.

Step 4:
To easily slip the hoop onto the machine it may be necessary to remove the foot and needle and then replace them after the hoop is attached. Load the design on the machine and align the needle to the center of the paper design. Remove the paper template and place down a piece of water soluble stabilizer.

Step 5:
Stitch the design following the color sequence. Remove the fabric from the hoop and trim away the excess stabilizer.

Step 6:
Steam away the excess stabilizer and decide on where to apply the ric rac to decorate the garment. Position and pin the ric rac in place. Use either clear thread or a blendable thread to stitch the ric rac to the garment.
