Description

Nothing could be faster than creating these Fabulous Felt Christmas Trees. It only takes one to seven minutes to stitch these trees.

½ yd lengths of felt in desired colors (60” wide felt will make a dozen trees)

Poly mesh stabilizer for 10 hoopings

Various metallic and variegated metallic threads – optional

3/8” wooden dowels 12” long (Hobby Lobby)

3/8 wooden wheels and spools (Hobby Lobby)

Optional – Miscellaneous adhesive dimensional stickers and gem stones. Most of these were found at Hobby Lobby and fabric stores.

Final Product: What You Will Create

Preface:

Cut your dowels into various lengths by cutting 5.5”, 6.5”, 5”, 6”, off one end. Both ends of the dowel will be usable. The difference in the lengths inserted into the different height trees will give character and uniqueness to each tree. All trees are made in the same manner just follow the color chart if there is one, two or no color changes between the tack down and final stitching of the back on the tree. I left one tree blank on the inside just to give you space for more stick on embellishment possibilities. This is a great time to use those variegated metallic threads in your stash, but you can also use regular embroidery thread.

Step 1:

Hoop poly mesh stabilizer in your 5” x 7” hoop. Run the 1st color stop in a thread color in the top and bobbin of your machine to match the felt color.

Step 2:

Cut a strip of felt 5” wide by 18” long and then sub cut that into two 5” x 9” pieces. Spray adhesive spray on one piece of the felt and lay over the outline.

Step 3:

Stitch the 2nd color stop which is the tack down line for the tree.

Step 4:

Stitch the 3rd color stop which will be the decorative stitching on the tree. Note: FTC03 does not have any decorative stitching the 3rd color stop for that design is the finishing stitching. For that design skip this step. Note: FTC09 has decorative stitching in two colors. For that design use color stops 3 and 4 to complete that stitching. Metallic and variegated threads make for interesting detail stitching on the trees.

Step 5:

Slide the second piece of felt underneath the hoop. Align underneath the top felt.

Step 6:

Switch your top thread back to one that matches the color of the felt. Stitch the final color stop which will sew the two pieces of felt together.

Step 7:

Trim though all thicknesses 1/8” from the stitching lines.

Step 8:

Select a dowel that is longer than the tree.

Step 9:

Insert the dowel into the small opening at the base of the tree. Push the dowel all the way up to the top of the tree. Note: your dowels may be a little jagged on the cut end, so insert the smoothest end of the dowel into the tree.

Step 10:

Insert the other end of the dowel into a wooden spool or tire to stand the tree. You may glue the dowel to the stand if you wish. I did not to make it easier to store the trees after Christmas.

Step 11:

Decorate the trees as desired with adhesive dimensional stickers, gem stones, ribbons and sequins. Congratulations your Fabulous Felt Christmas Trees are complete!
