| | Steps: | - Hoop the top sham fabric and stitch the design. Here the outline has been stitched, and the applique fabric has been placed over the outline.
- At the color stop, cut away the excess fabric by sliding a scissors around the stitches. The next step in the process is the border.
- When the machine gets through the colors to the next outline, follow the same steps to do the applique heart. Allow the design to finish stitching.
- Now we begin sewing our sham together. For the trim, cut the contrasting fabric in seven inch widths. You will need four pieces.
- Stitch the contrasting fabric to the sham top with a 5/8" seam. Center the fabric so the overlap on each end is the same.
- Repeat the process for all four sides. Fold the fabric out of the way and pin in place to avoid catching it in the upcoming seams.
- Press a narrow hem on each of the two back pieces of the sham and stitch the hem in place.
- Beginning at the corners, place the two pieces of the sham back against the top, right sides together.
- Stitch all the way around the sham. If the fabric ravels, go around a second time with a zigzag stitch or use a serger to finish the edges.
