The perfect solution to your 'No Balls in the House' rule! Make fun, safe and lightweight fabric balls for toddlers and child play or for special events! Once a balloon is inserted, the ball bounces and can be played with outside. The chances of it popping and scaring a toddler or entering an air passageway are greatly reduced. This ball is great for inside play as it is very light weight.
This ball can be used for weddings, family reunions and other party decorations. Can be used outside or indoors. Makes a 6" ball. After the festivities, remove the balloon and pack away flat.
Directions:
Fan fold the fabric for six layers the width of the template. Make sure to reserve enough for hexagon pieces. Using a rotary cutter, cut around the templates, cutting 6 side pieces and 3 hexagon pieces. Use the holes on the template to mark the pieces.
Sew the 6 side pieces together between the markings with a 1/4 seam allowance. Join the first piece to the last piece creating the body of the ball.
With right sides together, sew two end pieces together through the center leaving a 1 - 1 1/2" gap in the center.
Open pieces to show right sides. The two pieces will be folded in half with folded edges sewn except for the gap. Press. Attach one end of the ball body to the plain hexagon right sides together, matching seam lines to markings. Attached joined hexagon pieces to the other end. Turn through the gap in the end.
Insert un-inflated balloon through gap and blow up to make fabric tight against balloon. Tie off balloon and tuck stem into hole.
Ready, Set, Play!!
