Use embroidery thread colors to not only coordinate with the placemat color, but also with perhaps something else like baskets, garden flowers, or dinnerware.
The alignment point for each of the four designs was moved from the center to the upper left corner. The trim was applied to the purchased placemats and then each design was aligned to the trim and stitched on the placemat following the color sequence.
Step 1:
Gather the supplies. Choose thread colors to coordinate with the trim or something like baskets to be used at the table.
Step 2:
Decide on the trim placement. For this project, trim was placed along the left edge and top edge of each placemat. Cut the trim to size, adding about an inch at each end.
Step 3:
Pin the ends underneath the placemat.
Step 4:
At the sewing machine, sew one piece of ribbon along one edge of the placemat. Sew down the ribbon along both edges to secure it in place.
Step 5:
Place and sew the second piece of ribbon along the remaining edge of the placemat.
Step 6:
After the ribbon is sewn on, determine the placement of each design.
Step 7:
Optional: load each of the designs in software. Normally designs have center alignment points as seen in the design.
