Description

Let your Irish spirit soar on St. Patrick’s Day with this quick to make Shamrock Brooch with crystals.

Materials

Emerald green polyester embroidery thread for the top of machine and matching bobbin

9 pieces 3mm Hot-Fix Glass Crystals

Hot-Fix heat applicator

Hot Glue Gun and glue stick

Jewelry Shoppe Findings Pin Back 1”

Fibrous water soluble stabilizer – such as Wet N’ Gone or Aqua-mesh 20” x 8”

Embroidery Hoop 4” x 4”

Final Product: What You Will Create

Step 1:

Hoop two layers of fibrous water soluble stabilizer.

Step 2:

Load emerald green polyester thread into your machine and bobbin.

Step 3:

Stitch the design.

Step 4:

Roughly cut the stabilizer off around the design.

Step 5:

Hold the design under hot running water to remove the excess stabilizer. Just hold it under the water long enough to remove the outside edges stabilizer. You want to leave some stabilizer in the project to keep it stiff.

Step 6:

Lay the Shamrock on a cotton (loop free) towel. Blot the embroidery to remove excess moisture and then lay on a dry section of the towel for it to dry. Dry thoroughly – about 3 hours.

Step 7:

Place on a heat resistant cutting board the Hot-Fix Crystals, the Hot-Fix Crystal Applicator, a glue gun and a 1” jewelry pin back.

Step 8:

With the Hot-fix applicator attach three or more 3mm green crystals to each leaf. Be sure your applicator does not touch the shamrock; it will melt your threads.

Step 9:

You may apply the crystals to all three petals as shown or use various layouts with different sized crystals of your liking.

Step 10:

Turn your shamrock face down. Make sure your 1” jewelry pin is facing so that the clasp opens on the left hand side.

Step 11:

Place a few drops of hot glue on the center back of the shamrock and press the clasp into place.

Step 12:

Your Shamrock Brooch is ready to wear; you might as well plan on sewing up a dozen of them. All your family and friends will want one too!
