Materials
  • ½ YD MEDIUM WEIGHT COTTON FABRIC (OUTER)
  • ½ YD COTTON FABRIC (LINING)
  • EMBROIDERY THREAD
  • SEWING THREAD
  • CUTAWAY STABILIZER
  • RIBBON OR TWINE
  • TEMPORARY ADHESIVE SPRAY
  • AIR ERASE FABRIC MARKER
  • SEWING MACHINE

    Final Product: What You Will Create

    Preface:
    Cut your fabric for the number of bags you would like to make. Embroider design onto the front of the outer fabric. Half a yard of fabric will make  approximately six cookie bags. Stitch sides of bag and lining. Cinch the bag closed with a ribbon and add a tag for a little embellishment. Time stated of 45 minutes for completion of project is for one cookie bag. Embroidery design " Milk and Cookie Company" size used for this project: 2.73" x 3" Milk and Cookie Company


    Step 1:
    Gather all supplies and review instructions before beginning. Cut outer and lining fabric 6.5” x 11” for as many cookie bags you would like to make.

    Step 2:
    Fold outer bag fabric in half.  Matching top edge raw edges.

    Step 3:
    Center place embroidery design paper template  3.5” up from bottom fold  to center of design. Mark axis points.

    Step 4:
    Load embroidery design onto your machine. Refer to design thread color chart for thread colors. Hoop stabilizer. Lightly spray temporary adhesive spray onto stabilizer. Center place matching axis points to hoop markings. Finger press to secure. Smooth in place.

    Step 5:
    Attach hoop to machine. Confirm center needle placement of design. Begin the embroidering process. Embroidering stitch out complete. Detach hoop. Cut and trim all jump stitches and loose thread ends. Trim cutaway stabilizer 1/2" from design.

    Step 6:
    With right sides together sew side seams using ¼” seam allowance. If needed serge or zig zag raw edges to prevent fraying. Repeat this step for lining.

    Step 7:
    Turn lining right side out. Slide into outer bag.  Right sides together matching side seams. Pin in place.

    Step 8:
    Stitch all around top edge using ¼” seam allowance. Leaving a 2” opening for turning. Turn right side out by pulling lining and outer bag through opening. Iron press.

    Step 9:
    Push down lining into outer bag. Wrong sides together. Iron press top edge. Fold in seam at opening. Top stitch all around top edge as this will also close opening.

    Step 10:
    Cinch up with a ribbon or twine . And you are done! Great job! Don’t forget to include the cookies!
    Recommendation: Place cookies in a small baggie before putting them in the cookie bag to help lock in freshness.
