Description

Fabric baskets are a great way to organize and tidy up those little things.

Materials
  • 1/3 YD SOLID COTTON FABRIC ( OUTER BASKET)
  • 1/3 YD PRINT COTTON FABRIC ( LINING)
  • 1/3 YD MED WEIGHT FUSIBLE INTERFACING
  • SEWING THREAD
  • EMBROIDERY THREAD
  • CUT AWAY STABILIZER
  • TEMPORARY ADHESIVE SPRAY
  • FABRIC AIR ERASABLE MARKING PEN

    Final Product: What You Will Create

    Preface:
    Fabric baskets can be made in different colors as well as in different sizes. Add an influential embroidery design to inspire and motivate. Embroidery design size used :  Some One Smiles 3.55" x 2.90" 
                                                      Just Breathe   3.71" x 2.89"
                                                      Be The Sunshine  3.32" x 3.91" 


    Step 1:
    Gather all supplies and review instructions before beginning.

    Step 2:
    Print out a paper template of embroidery design.

    Step 3:
    Cut fabric and interfacing as follows:
                     Cut two pieces 10” x 10” from outer fabric
                     Cut two pieces 10” x 10” from lining fabric
                     Cut two pieces 10” x 10” from fusible interfacing

    Step 4:
    Fuse interfacing to wrong side of both outer basket fabric pieces. Refer to manufacturer's instructions.

    Step 5:
    Cut 2” squares at bottom of each corner of outer basket and lining pieces.

    Step 6:
    Fold one of the outer pieces in half vertically and finger press fold to crease. This technique will aid in centering of embroidery design template. Center design template 5” from bottom edge to center of design.

    Step 7:
    Mark axis points. Load design into machine.

    Step 8:
    Hoop stabilizer. Spray temporary adhesive spray directly onto to stabilizer. Center and align marked outer piece to markings on your inside hoop. Finger press to secure to stabilizer

    Step 9:
    Attach hoop to machine. Confirm center needle placement. Make any necessary adjustments per your machine’s instruction manual. Begin the embroidering process. Design stitch out approx 18 minutes @ 700 SPM ( stitches per minute) Stitch out complete, detach hoop. Cut and trim all jump stitches and loose thread ends. Cutaway stabilizer approx. ½” from design.

    Step 10:
    Layer the two outer basket pieces. Right sides together. Pin in place. Stitch both sides and bottom using 1/4" seam allowance. Repeat this step for the two lining pieces.

    Step 11:
    BOXING CORNERS
    Open and align bottom and side seams of the fabric basket at the cut corners. Stitch across using ¼” seam allowance. Repeat step for lining. The bottom of your outer and lining pieces are now boxed.

    Step 12:
    Turn lining right side out and slide into outer basket. Right sides together. Align the top edges and pin in place. Stitch all around top edge using ¼” seam allowance leaving a 2” opening for turning.

    Step 13:
    Pull outer basket and lining through opening. Push lining in place into outer basket
    (wrong sides together) . Pin/iron press top edge. Top stitch all around. This will close opening.

    Step 14:
    Fold down top edge approx 1”. Your Fabric Basket is finished! Good job!
