Final Product: What You Will Create

    Preface:
A 'Snowflake Pillow' in silver metallic and blue colors.  Get comfy this winter with a cup of cocoa, a cozy blanket, and a cushy 'Snowflake Pillow'.   The design is available in 4 sizes.  The design featured measures 6.8"x7.8" with a stitch count of 16,432.

    Step 1:
Gather & prepare the materials needed for the project.  Read the directions before you begin the project.  Iron and lightly starch the fabric.

    Step 2:
An essential tool for embroidery position and placement is a design template.  A design template is a printout of the actual size of the design.  It has the center of the design identified, as well as the horizontal and vertical axis lines. An embroidery program can print a template of any design.  (Embrilliance Essentials embroidery software program was used to print the design template).

    Print the design template.

    Step 3:
Center the design template on the 10.5"x10.5" background fabric.  Pin the template to the fabric.

    Step 4:
Hoop one piece of medium weight (2.5 oz.) cut away stabilizer.  Center the fabric in the hoop.  Use wonder pins to secure the fabric to the stabilizer.

    Step 5:
Load the design on the machine.  A 75/11 size embroidery needle is suggested for this project.  Attach the hoop to the machine.  Check the stitching field area to make sure there is nothing in the way.  Use the color guide to stitch the design.

Once the design has completed stitching, remove the hoop from the machine.  Remove the fabric from the hoop.  Trim excess stabilizer from around the design leaving about a 1/2" margin.

    Step 6:
Pin one 3"x10.5" strip of blue fabric to two sides of the square.

Sew the fabrics together using a 1/4" seam allowance.

    Step 7:
Press along the seam lines with an iron.

    Step 8:
Pin the 3"x15" fabric strips to the other two sides of the center piece.  Sew the fabrics together using a 1/4" seam.

    Step 9:
Pin the 3"x15" strips to the sides of the center piece.

Sew the fabrics together using a 1/4" seam.  Trim excess fabric if needed.

    Step 10:
Press along the seam lines with an iron.

    Step 11:
Even the sides of the square if needed.

    Step 12:
Next, you need the two pieces for the back (11"x15").  Fold one edge down 1/2" on one long side and press with an iron.  Fold the edge down another 1/2" and press.

Repeat this process for the second piece of fabric.

    Step 13:
Topstitch a double row along the edge of the fabric.

    Step 14:
Place the front side of the pillow facing you on a flat surface.  Place one of the pieces of the back cover right side down on the pillow front.

    Step 15:
Place the second backing cover face down.  The pieces will overlap.

    Step 16:
Pin the back pieces to the front piece of the pillow.  Square or even the fabric edges if needed.  Sew a 1/2" seam around the pillow.

Reinforce the stitching on the sides with the opening for the pillow insert.

    Step 17:
Trim the corners of the pillow to remove the bulky fabric.

Turn the pillow right side out.  Press along the seams with an iron.

    Insert the pillow form.

    Step 18:
    Blue-tiful job!

Beautiful things are made one stitch at a time...
