A set of 'Winter Blue Jay Ornaments' framed in wooden embroidery hoops. The set is available is three sizes and 10 designs. The small design fits a 4"x4" hoop with an average stitch count of 6,000.
Step 1:
Read the directions before you begin the project. Gather & prepare the materials needed for the project. Iron and lightly starch the fabric.
Step 2:
Cut one 7"x7" piece of Pellon SF101 super flex interfacing. Refer to the package directions to bond the SF101 to the back on one of the 7"x7" neutral fabrics. The SF101 will add stability to the fabric.
NOTE: SF101 was used along with a tear away stabilizer for this project. However, a light weight cut away stabilizer would work also. The cut away stabilizer would have shown thru the light colored neutral fabric; so I chose to use the SF100 with the tear away.
Step 3:
Cut one piece of tear away stabilizer to fit the hoop. Lightly mist one side of the stabilizer with 505 Temporary Adhesive spray. Place the 7"x7" fabric that has the SF101 on the back onto the stabilizer. Smooth the fabric onto the stabilizer.
Hoop one piece of tear away stabilizer with the fabric.
Step 4:
Load the design on the machine. A 75/11 size embroidery needle is suggested for this project. Attach the hoop to the machine. Check the stitching field area to make sure there is nothing in the way. Use the color guide to embroider the design.
Step 5:
Remove the hoop from the machine. Gently tear away the excess stabilizer. If needed, trim long threads.
Step 6:
Cut one 7"x7" neutral fabric. This fabric piece will be the backing of the ornament.
Step 7:
Place the second piece of 7"x7" neutral blender fabric behind the embroidered design with wrong sides together.
Use a light mist of 505 Temporary Adhesive spray on the back of the blank neutral fabric. Press the embroidered fabric onto the neutral fabric.
Step 8:
Center the fabric in the hoop.
Step 9:
Trim the excess fabric from around back of the hoop edges.
Step 10:
Tie a 10" piece of Raffia ribbon to the hoop.
Step 11:
Tie a ribbon in the metal loop on the embroidery hoop. A fabric ribbon was used for a more rustic look. An easy option is commercial ribbon.
Step 12:
Using pinking shears or a pinking rotary cutter, cut one 18"x3/4" piece of fabric. Tie the fabric strip on the loop & make a simple bow.
Step 13:
You have completed a 'Winter Blue Jay Ornament'! Great job! Make a set to add to an Alpine tree or give one as a special gift.
