Read through the instructions thoroughly before beginning and assemble all the materials needed to complete the project. Print off the paper template for the placemat.

Step 2:
Press the fabrics well. Quarter fold and lightly crease the placemat to find the center. Lay the paper template over the placemat, aligning the center, and also the crosshairs on the template to the folds on the placemat.

Step 3:
Chose the large hoop that will fit the design.

Step 4:
Cut the batting and stabilizer larger than the hoop. Sandwich the layers together in the hoop, centering the placemat within the hoop.

Step 5:
Load the design on the machine. Place the hoop on the machine and center the needle over the middle of the template.

Step 6:
The first color to stitch will be a line to tack all the layers together. The second color stitches the background motif fill, which leaves an outlined area for the animals.

Step 7:
If you chose, change the thread color and stitch the next color which is all the animal outlines.

Step 8:
The stitching is fast and easy, quilting the placemat as the stitching was done.

Step 9:
Remove the layers from the hoop. Fold back the border of the placemat and trim the stabilizer and batting to the fold on all sides. Place the red check fabric, wrong side up on a flat surface; center the placemat over the fabric and pin it to the placemat.

Step 10:
Fold the cut edge of the check fabric to just shy of the placemat edge and press. Now fold over again and press so the edge of the placemat is trimmed in the check fabric.

Step 11:
Repeat for all four sides, pinning the fold in place. Use a blanket stitch to stitch around all edges of the border.
